Chapter 6 - THE AMBUSH AT THE DOCKSThe night air was thick with fog at Shipping Pier 14. Mauricio stood near an empty container, frantically checking his watch. It was 11:00 PM. He had received a text from Adriana saying she would meet him alone to negotiate the return of the company in exchange for dropping all threats against Renata.

A black SUV pulled up slowly, its headlights cutting through the heavy mist.

Mauricio pulled a small revolver from his coat pocket, his heart hammering in his chest. "Come out, Adriana! Alone! If I see anyone else, I swear I'll make sure you regret it!"

The driver’s door opened. Adriana stepped out, wearing a long trench coat, looking entirely unfazed by the weapon pointed at her.

"Put the gun away, Mauricio. You don't even know how to safety-check it," she said flatly.

"Shut up!" Mauricio yelled, his eyes wild. "You destroyed me! You played me for six years! You pretended to be a charity case while your father controlled everything!"

"I wanted a real husband, Mauricio," Adriana said, taking a step forward. "I wanted to know if a man could love me for me, not for my name or my money. But you showed me who you really were. You traded me for Vanessa, and you let her abuse our child."

"Vanessa was useful!" Mauricio screamed. "And now you're going to fix this! Sign over the Salvatierra offshore accounts to me, or Victor and his men will—"

Before Mauricio could finish his sentence, powerful red laser sights suddenly painted his chest, his forehead, and his shoulders.

From the shadows, dozens of heavily armed, fully tactical Special Forces operators emerged from behind the shipping containers, rifles raised. Heavy military helicopters swooped down from the sky, blinding Mauricio with searchlights.

"Drop the weapon! Hands on your head! NOW!" a voice boomed through a megaphone.

Mauricio froze, dropping the gun as if it were burning hot. He fell to his knees, sobbing hysterically.

Victor and his thugs were already pinned to the ground nearby, thoroughly disarmed and cuffed.

Adriana walked right up to the weeping Mauricio, crouching down so she was eye-level with him.

"You thought you were a wolf, Mauricio," she whispered sweetly. "But you were always just a sheep pretending to wear a lion's skin."
