My right hand rested comfortably against the polished glass railing, the platinum ring I had bought for myself catching the last brilliant rays of sunlight. It didn't symbolize forever in the way wedding bands were supposed to. It symbolized something far more enduring: survival, independence, and the absolute refusal to ever be second best in my own life.
Down below, the city lights flickered to life one by one, forming an endless ocean of brilliance that stretched out toward an infinite horizon.
