Chapter 7 - The Empire RebuiltSix months later, the sun shone brightly over Houston, casting a warm, golden glow across the glass facade of the newly minted Brooks International Headquarters in downtown.

From my corner office on the forty-second floor, I looked out over the bustling cityscape. The skyline was vibrant, alive, and completely under my control. The foundation I established with the recovered Vance assets was now funding medical research centers, female entrepreneurship grants, and legal defense funds for women trapped in abusive marriages.

Chloe walked into my office carrying two cups of steaming artisan coffee, handing one to me with a proud grin. "The board meeting went flawlessly, boss. The international expansion into Europe is officially greenlit."

I took a sip of the coffee, feeling the rich, bold warmth spread through me. "Thank you, Chloe. But I couldn't have done it without your unwavering support."

"Nonsense," Chloe laughed, walking over to the floor-to-ceiling window to admire the view with me. "You built this empire with your own hands. By the way, did you hear about what happened to your ex-husband?"

I paused, looking over at her with mild curiosity. "I stopped keeping track months ago. What about him?"

"Word is, he’s working a low-level sales job somewhere in an industrial park in Phoenix," Chloe said, shaking her head. "And Natalie? She skipped the country the moment the legal hounds stopped chasing her, leaving him with a mountain of personal debt."

I turned back to the window, watching the endless stream of cars moving below on the highway. There was no anger left in my heart, no lingering bitterness, and no desire for revenge. Just a profound, liberating sense of peace.

The crash on that Friday afternoon in Beverly Hills had been the most terrifying moment of my life. It had shattered my body, broken my heart, and destroyed my marriage. But looking back, it had also shattered the cage that kept me small.

I had survived the wreckage. I had walked through the fire. And from the ashes, I had built something infinitely stronger, brighter, and entirely my own.
