Chapter 6 - The Final ConfrontationAs the courtroom emptied, I lingered behind to gather my legal documents. The heavy oak doors clicked shut, leaving only the sound of shuffling paper and the echoing footsteps of someone approaching my table.

I looked up. Dominic stood there, his hands trembling slightly as he stared down at the polished wooden floor.

"Audrey," he whispered, his voice cracking with desperation. "Please. Can we talk? Just... five minutes."

I slowly closed my briefcase, locked the silver clasps with a sharp click, and finally looked him dead in the eye. "You have thirty seconds, Dominic. Make them count."

Dominic swallowed hard, taking a hesitant step closer. "I was an idiot. I was blind, I was arrogant, and I let my mother and Natalie cloud my judgment. But please... remember the good years. Remember how we used to be before all of this. I loved you, Audrey."

A cold, mirthless smile touched the corners of my lips. "No, Dominic. You never loved me. You loved what I could do for you. You loved my family’s money, my compliance, and the quiet way I let you diminish my existence so you could feel like a king."

"I lost everything," he choked out, a tear finally spilling over his eyelashes. "Natalie left the moment the accounts were frozen. My mother won't even take my calls. I have nothing left in this world."

I stood up, towering over him with a calm, unshakable authority that made him shrink back.

"You didn't lose everything, Dominic," I said softly. "You lost what you stole. What you have now is the exact life you earned. You wanted to prioritize Natalie over my life? Well, congratulations. You are entirely free to go join her wherever she’s hiding. But don't you ever dare look for me again."

I turned my back on him, walking toward the private exit without a single backward glance.
