Chapter 4 - The Public UnmaskingThe silence in the boardroom was absolute. Every eye turned from the terrifying composure of Madison Hale to the pathetic, sweating figure of Ethan Cole clinging desperately to the edge of the table.

Madison didn’t flinch. She slowly leaned back in her leather chair, tilting her head as she looked at the man she had loved, fed, and financed for half a decade.

"Spite, Ethan?" Madison asked softly, her voice cutting through the heavy air. "You think this is about a broken heart?"

"Of course it is!" Ethan yelled, his voice echoing off the glass walls, his mask of corporate brilliance completely shattered, revealing the desperate, insecure boy from the South Side beneath. "You couldn't handle that I outgrew you! You couldn't stand the sight of me moving on to a real woman who belongs in this world, so you played some sick, twisted joke, pretending to be a delivery driver just to humiliate me!"

Sabrina buried her face in her hands, realizing the monumental disaster she had hitched her wagon to.

Madison didn't raise her voice. She simply pressed a button on the control panel embedded in the table.

Behind her, a massive high-definition wall screen flickered to life. It didn't display corporate charts or patent graphs. It displayed a digital ledger, time-stamped and legally verified by national banking institutions.

Five years ago: Wire transfer of $42,000 from Hale Trust to University Hospital for Claire Cole's emergency respiratory surgery.

Four years ago: Monthly rent payments of $1,800 paid anonymously to South Side Property Management for Ethan Cole's laboratory apartment.

Three years ago: Purchase order for specialized titanium-alloy micro-valves imported from Germany, billed to 'M. Hale Private Holdings' and delivered directly to Ethan’s student mailbox.

Ethan stared at the screen, his mouth opening and closing like a fish out of water. The color drained from his face until he looked corpses-white.

"No..." Ethan whispered, stumbling backward. "That... that's impossible. You were just a delivery girl. You rode a scooter. You wore a faded red jacket!"

"I wore what I wanted to wear," Madison said, her eyes flashing with a cold, unforgiving fire. "I wanted to know if the man who whispered promises of eternal loyalty in my ear loved me, or if he just loved the safety net I provided. Last night, you answered that question permanently in front of the entire Chicago elite."

She stood up slowly, towering over the table, her presence commanding the entire room.

"You said I didn't belong in your new life, Ethan. You were right. Because in my world, people who steal credit, betray their benefactors, and trade their integrity for a social ladder don't get to sit at the table."

Madison turned to the two security guards standing at attention by the door.

"Escort Mr. Cole out of the building. Revoke all his access credentials, freeze his corporate accounts, and have his new car towed from the VIP bay. Effective immediately, Cole Thermal Tech does not exist."

"Madison! You can't do this!" Ethan shrieked as the two massive security guards grabbed him by the arms, dragging him backward toward the doors as he kicked and thrashed. "You'll ruin me! I made that invention! I'm a genius! YOU HEAR ME? I'M A GENIUS!"

His desperate screams echoed down the hallway until the heavy oak doors clicked shut, plunging the boardroom back into a stunned, breathless silence.

Madison adjusted her cuffs, sat back down, and looked calmly at the remaining executives.

"Now," she said smoothly, her voice as calm as a summer lake. "Let us move on to item number two on the agenda: the restructuring of our green-energy subsidiaries."
