Chapter 6 - THE REDEMPTION OF THE STAFFMartha stood alone in the center of the grand foyer for a long moment, closing her eyes and taking a deep breath of air that no longer carried the toxic stench of Vanessa's tyranny. When she opened her eyes again, the vulnerability was completely gone, replaced by the resolute strength of a true matriarch.

She walked out toward the expansive, sunlit back kitchen. The entire domestic staff—cooks, maids, gardeners, and chauffeurs—were gathered in a tight, anxious huddle near the pantry. When they saw Martha walk in, wearing the diamond brooch and the tailored blue suit, every single one of them instinctively flinched, stepping back out of decades of ingrained habit.

"Mrs... Mrs. Sinclair?" whispered Maria, the head cook, her hands clasped apron-front. "Are we... are we all fired, too? Did Miss Vanessa... I mean, did she win?"

Martha stopped. A soft, genuine warmth broke through the icy armor she had worn all morning. She walked directly up to Maria, reaching out and gently taking the older woman's calloused hands into her own.

"Look at me, Maria," Martha said softly, her voice thick with genuine emotion. "You are never, ever going to be spoken to with disrespect in this house again. Not by a Sinclair, not by anyone."

Gasps rippled through the room. Several of the younger maids burst into tears, covering their mouths with trembling hands.

"From this moment forward," Martha announced, turning to address the entire staff, "the wages for every single employee of Sinclair Manor are doubled, effective immediately. Every hour of overtime you endured under that monster will be compensated at triple rate. And for those of you who have children heading to college, the Sinclair Foundation will cover their tuition in full."

Cheers erupted through the kitchen. Maria threw her arms around Martha, burying her face in the expensive blue silk of Martha's shoulder, sobbing tears of pure relief and vindication.

"Thank you, ma'am... thank you," Maria choked out.

"Thank you," Martha replied, patting Maria's back. "For surviving with me. Now... let's get this house cleaned up. We have a board meeting at two o'clock, and I intend to chair it myself."
