Chapter 15 - The Sister's Melody

“No!” Dominic shouted, diving between Clara and the child.
The curved blade sliced across Dominic’s shoulder armor, sparking against the composite plating. He didn't strike back—he couldn't. He was a ruthless mob boss who had executed dozens of men without hesitation, but he could not hurt his own blood.
Iris landed gracefully on the stone floor, rolling back to her feet with military precision. She raised the blade again, her movements mechanical, controlled by the frequency emitted from Marco’s silver device.
“Kill them, child,” Marco commanded, his voice echoing through the church. “Fulfill the legacy!”
Suddenly, the heavy doors of the cathedral blew inward with a deafening crash.
A tiny figure walked into the sanctuary through the smoke, completely unbothered by the rain or the armed men outside. It was Lily. She had snuck into the back of Marcus’s assault vehicle, refusing to be left behind.
“Lily! Get back!” Clara screamed in sheer terror.
Lily ignored the warning. She walked calmly toward her twin sister, stepping over the broken glass and shattered stone.
Iris turned, her blade raised, her cold eyes locking onto Lily. She took three fast steps toward her, ready to strike.
Lily didn't run. She didn't cry. She simply stopped three feet away, looked into Iris’s empty eyes, and began to sing softly:
“Sleep, little star, in the quiet night… Daddy holds the shield, Mommy holds the light…”

It was the same bedtime song Clara had sung to Lily every night—the song Lily had sung to Clara when she was lying poisoned on the floor two years ago.
Iris froze mid-stride. The blade in her tiny hand began to tremble.
