Chapter 6 - The Secret of the Rabbit

Vincenzo stared at the vial in his hand, his eyes widening in total shock. “What?! You’re lying!”

“I knew you were poisoning me, Vincenzo,” Clara said, taking a agonizing step forward. “Slowly. Small doses in my morning tea while I worked in the kitchens. You wanted me docile. You wanted me to forget who Dominic was so I would never tell him that you were the one who leaked our location to the cartel four years ago!”

Vincenzo’s face turned bright red with rage. “You miserable bitch!”

He raised his gun, pointing it straight at Clara’s chest.

Before he could pull the trigger, Dominic moved.

He dropped his rifle, stepped inside Vincenzo’s guard, and drove a combat knife straight through Vincenzo’s wrist. The gun clattered to the floor. Vincenzo shrieked in agony as Dominic grabbed him by the throat, lifting the grown man off his feet and pinning him over the balcony railing.

“You touched my wife,” Dominic growled, his face inches from his brother's. “You poisoned the mother of my child. And you dared to stand in my house and play God.”

“Dominic… please… we’re blood!” Vincenzo gasped, struggling for air, his hands clutching Dominic’s iron grip.

“My blood is under this desk,” Dominic snarled. “And in that bedroom.”

With a violent twist, Dominic threw Vincenzo over the railing. The fall was three stories down onto the cold marble foyer. A dull thud echoed through the house, followed by complete, absolute silence.

Dominic didn't even look down. He turned and sprinted toward Clara, catching her just as her legs gave out.
