Chapter 1 - THE SECRET BENEATH THE MARBLE

The heavy atmosphere in the boutique felt suffocating. The cold metal of the golden key burned against the young worker’s palm. His name was Leo—an underpaid, overlooked employee who had spent the last two years scrubbing fingerprint smudges off glass display cases while rich patrons looked right through him.

Now, every pair of eyes in the room was fixed on him.

The manager, Victoria, stood paralyzed. Her flawless makeup couldn't hide the sudden grey pallor of her skin. "That... that's impossible," she stammered, stepping back. "The Founders' Vault has been sealed for thirty years. The key was lost when the matriarch of the Sterling Dynasty vanished!"

The elderly woman in the wheelchair—whose name was Madam Eleanor Sterling—didn't look frail anymore. Her posture straightened. The trembling in her hands ceased. The weakness in her eyes burned away, replaced by an ancient, terrifying authority.

"I didn't lose the key, Victoria," Madam Eleanor said, her voice cutting through the silent boutique like a razor. "I was waiting for someone who cared more about a falling human being than a million-dollar diamond case."

Victoria’s hands shook as she reached for her walkie-talkie. "Security! Clear the boutique! NOW!"

Heavy footsteps echoed across the marble as four burly guards rushed in, shoving the gossiping elite out into the high-end shopping district. Within seconds, the heavy glass front doors slammed shut, and the automated iron security shutters rolled down with a deafening screech, locking them inside.

Only four people remained: Madam Eleanor, Leo, Victoria, and the mysterious camera operator whose lens had been recording every second.

"Leo," Madam Eleanor whispered, pointing toward the back of the store. "The vault. Open it."

Leo hesitated, looking down at his worn sneakers and his blue employee polo shirt. "Ma'am, I'm just a stock boy. I don't belong in whatever games you're playing."

"You bent down when the world stood tall in their pride," she said firmly. "Insert the key."

Leo walked slowly toward the back of the boutique. Hidden behind a velvet curtain was a massive, seamless door made of reinforced titanium and black obsidian. There was no keyhole—only a small, sunken groove shaped exactly like the tiny golden key.

He pressed the key into the slot.

CLICK. HEAVY METALLIC RUMBLE.

The ground beneath their feet vibrated violently. The obsidian door didn't just unlock; it split down the middle, sliding into the walls to reveal a lit staircase descending into the depths below the shopping mall.

Victoria gasped, reaching into her blazer and pulling out a small black device. "You can't go down there! That vault contains the original deeds to the entire city's commercial district! If an outsider touches them, the Sterling Board of Directors will destroy this entire brand!"

"The Board of Directors are vultures," Madam Eleanor spat. "And you, Victoria, are their lead puppet. Leo, step down into the vault."

Leo took his first step down the cold stone stairs. But before Madam Eleanor could follow, Victoria lunged forward, grabbing the handles of the wheelchair with frantic strength.

"You aren't giving this company to a trash boy!" Victoria screamed, pulling a concealed pocket knife from her belt and pressing it against Eleanor's neck. "Tell me the passcode for the inner vault, or you die right here!"

Leo turned around on the stairs, his blood running cold. "Let her go!"

Madam Eleanor didn't panic. Instead, she smirked. "You always were predictable, Victoria. But you forgot one detail."

BOOM.

The overhead chandeliers detonated in a shower of sparks. The entire boutique went pitch black, leaving only the dim amber lights of the subterranean vault glowing from beneath.
