Chapter 6 - THE TWISTED HEIR

Rain slammed against the skyscraper glass. Leo walked up to the window, looking down at the glittering lights of the city below. The empire was finally back in the hands of the Vance family. Justice had been served.

Or so it seemed.

"You played a dangerous game, Eleanor," Leo said without turning around. "You risked my life."

"And you proved yourself worthy," Eleanor said softly, walking up beside him. "Your grandfather would be proud. Tomorrow, we announce your appointment as CEO. You will restore honor to this name."

Leo turned his head slowly, looking at Eleanor with an unreadable expression.

"Honor?" Leo chuckled. It was a cold, dry sound. "My grandfather died in a damp, moldy apartment because he believed in 'honor.' He believed people were inherently good. That's why your family destroyed him."

Eleanor froze, her smile fading. "Leo?"

Leo stepped closer to her, towering over the elderly woman. He pulled the biometric ring off his finger and spun it on the glass table.

"Did you really think I bent down to pick up those pearls because I felt sorry for you?" Leo whispered, his voice dangerously smooth.

Eleanor’s eyes widened slightly. "What are you saying?"

"Three months ago, I didn't get hired here by accident, Eleanor," Leo smirked, pulling a small black micro-chip from his pocket. "I tracked your proxy's movements for a year. I knew about the vault key inside the fake pearl necklace. I knew about the automated inheritance clause in the company's charter. I staged the wheelchair tilt myself with an electromagnetic device in my shoe."

Eleanor stared at him, complete shock washing over her face for the first time in thirty years. "You... you orchestrated the accident?"

"You thought you were testing me," Leo said, leaning in close to her ear. "In reality, I was luring you into playing your final card. You wanted a hero to save your legacy. But you didn't get a hero, Eleanor. You got my grandfather's revenge."

Leo tapped the tablet screen one last time.

BZZZZT.

A new system message flashed on the board screens:

TRANSFER COMPLETE: ALL STERLING GLOBAL ASSETS (100%) TRANSFERRED TO VANCE HOLDINGS OFFSHORE. SYSTEM PURGE INITIATED.

"What have you done?!" Eleanor gasped, reaching for her emergency comms unit.

"I didn't just take my grandfather's 51%," Leo said, his eyes turning cold as ice. "I used the master access you gave me to liquidate the entire corporation. Sterling Global ceases to exist in five minutes. The employees will be paid out, the assets will be liquidated, and the corrupt brand you built on blood will be completely erased from history."

Eleanor sank into a chair, breathing heavily, realizing she had been outplayed by the very boy she thought she was manipulating. "You're destroying my life's work..."

"No," Leo said, walking toward the private exit, picking up his suit jacket. "I'm finishing my grandfather's work. Thank you for the key, Madam Sterling."

Leo stepped into the private elevator. As the metallic doors slowly closed, he looked at Eleanor one last time with a calm, triumphant smile.

The doors sealed tight. The elevator descended into the dark, leaving the fallen queen alone in her empty tower.
