Chapter 4 - The Billionaire’s GambleJulian Sterling stared at the boy. For five terrifying seconds, the billionaire considered signaling his guards to snatch the wallet by force, knock the kids out, and dump them in a river where no one would ever find them.

But Noah’s thumb rested directly over the casing of the silver flash drive, pressing down with just enough pressure to show he wasn't bluffing. One twitch, and forty billion dollars went down the drain.
A slow, chilling smile spread across Sterling’s face. It was the smile of a chess grandmaster who had just realized he’d been checkmated by a pawn—and found it profoundly amusing.
"Impressive," Sterling murmured, lowering his hand. He signaled to his lead guard. "Marcus. Call my private legal counsel. Tell them to draft an emergency guardianship and adoption petition. Fast-track it through a federal judge I have on retainer. I want it signed within two hours."
Marcus stared at his boss in absolute shock. "Sir? Are you serious? Adoption?"
"Do it!" Sterling snapped, his voice cracking like a whip. He turned back to the twins, his eyes narrowing into cold slits. "You get your adoption. You get your grandmother’s medical bills paid in full—the best doctors, the private wing at Mercy Grove, whatever it takes to keep her alive. But listen to me very carefully."
Sterling leaned down until his face was inches from Noah’s.
"The moment those papers are signed, you belong to me. Your life, your loyalty, your obedience. You step one foot out of line, and I will chew you up and spit you out so fast you won't even know what hit you. Do we understand each other?"
"Yes, sir," Noah said without flinching.
"Good." Sterling snatched the leather wallet from Noah’s hand, his fingers eagerly brushing against the silver flash drive. He pocketed it instantly, then pulled out a solid gold fountain pen. "Marcus, give them your phone. Let's call the hospital and settle the old woman's account before she kicks the bucket. I need my new legal dependents alive to sign the paperwork."
Within ten minutes, the transformation began.
A sleek, bulletproof Maybach pulled up to the edge of the parking garage. The driver rushed out with an umbrella, though it wasn't raining. Marcus handed Caleb a sleek new smartphone already dialed to Mercy Grove Medical Center.
"Put it on speaker," Sterling commanded.
Caleb pressed the button. On the third ring, a tired nurse answered.
"Hello? Mercy Grove billing."
"This is Julian Sterling," the billionaire cut in smoothly, his voice carrying the effortless authority of a man who owned half the city. "I am settling all medical debts, past, present, and future, for patient Evelyn Reed in Room 412. Transfer my private banking concierge to your finance director immediately. I want her moved to the executive VIP wing within twenty minutes, with the finest cardiac and endocrinology specialists on staff."
Silence stretched across the phone line. The nurse stammered, "Mr... Mr. Sterling? Sir, that room costs—"
"I don't care what it costs," Sterling barked. "Just do it."
As the phone call ended, Noah looked down at his ragged shirt, his mismatched shoes, and the faded backpack he shared with his brother. He realized his life had just changed forever. But as he looked at Caleb’s relieved face, he knew they had won.

Or so he thought.
Because Julian Sterling didn't adopt orphans out of the goodness of his heart. He was building an army. And the Reed twins were about to step straight into the lion's den.
