Chapter 5 - THE COLLAPSE OF THE DYNASTYWithin forty-eight hours, the Holloway empire didn't just fall—it disintegrated.

The media smelled blood in the water before the market even opened. FINANCIAL TITAN HOLLOWAY INDUSTRIES PLUNGES INTO INSOLVENCY read the banner headlines across every major business journal in the country. Investigative reports, quietly fed to financial journalists by Mercer Capital’s public relations team, began detailing a decade of corporate malfeasance, cooked books, and fraudulent loan applications masterminded by Grant’s late father and sustained by Grant himself.

At the Lake Forest estate, the heavy oak doors were wide open.

Movers in blue uniforms carried boxes of expensive artwork, designer clothing, and Holloway family heirlooms down the front steps, stacking them haphazardly onto the pavement.

Grant stood by the stone fountain, his charcoal suit wrinkled, his tie loosened. He looked ten years older. The oil portrait of his grandfather gazed down from its position inside the foyer, though the house no longer belonged to a Holloway.

A sleek black town car pulled up to the curb.

Claire stepped out, holding a single manila folder. She wore sunglasses, her expression unreadable.

Grant stumbled toward her, his dignity completely shattered. "Are you happy now?" he shouted, his voice cracking. "You took everything! The company, the house, my name, my reputation! You destroyed generations of work in forty-eight hours!"

Claire stopped, looking at him with a profound, chilling pity.

"Generations of work built on stolen foundations, Grant," she said quietly. "My grandfather built the steel mills your family stole. My family wrote the algorithms your father used to corner the market before he pushed my uncle out. I didn't destroy your legacy. I simply stopped subsidizing it."

Vanessa rushed out of the house, clutching two designer handbags to her chest, her face tear-streaked and furious. "You psychotic bitch! You ruined our lives over a divorce?"

Claire didn't even look at Vanessa. She signaled to Martin Hale, who now stood by the front entrance wearing a Mercer Capital lapel pin.

"Martin, have the locks changed by noon," Claire instructed.

"Right away, Mrs. Mercer," Martin replied crisply.

Grant fell to his knees on the damp gravel, his hands gripping his head as the reality of his absolute ruin finally crushed him into the earth.
