Chapter 9 - A New Dawn at the MansionThe rain outside the Hartman mansion was no longer a cold, whispering ghost of grief; it was a gentle, nourishing summer shower.

Inside, the grand dining room table—once set for twelve empty chairs—was filled with life. The air smelled of freshly baked bread, roasted chicken, and chocolate cake.

Mrs. Gable bustled around the table, wiping away a tear of pure joy as she placed a large plate of cookies in front of Lily, who was giggling uncontrollably as she tried to balance a napkin on her head.

At the head of the table sat Michael. He didn't look back at the museum of silence anymore. The dark photographs had been replaced by bright, colorful crayon drawings taped neatly to the refrigerator, and the laughter of a child echoed off walls that had forgotten how to smile.

"Michael," Lily said, holding up a half-eaten chocolate chip cookie. "Can we go back to the park tonight?"

Michael smiled, leaning back in his chair and feeling a warmth in his chest that he hadn't felt since the day he lost Emily. He reached across the table, gently wiping a smudge of chocolate from Lily’s cheek—just the way Emily used to do when teasing him.

"We can go to the park whenever you want, Lily," Michael said softly. "But tonight... I think we stay home. Because we finally have one."

Lily smiled brightly, clutching her dolls, while the grandfather clock in the hallway chimed softly, marking not the passage of time lost, but the beginning of a future found.
