Chapter 4 - The Monday Morning CollisionSunday night bled into Monday morning.

Austin’s Audi pulled into the private driveway of our Back Bay brownstone at precisely 11:15 PM. He had left Chloe at her apartment, adjusting his tie in the rear-view mirror, practicing the weary, affectionate expression he would use to greet his "devastated" bride.

He unlocked the front door, expecting the scent of cold coffee, unwashed dishes, and a weeping woman curled on the sofa.

Instead, the house was pitch black.

The air smelled of nothing—no lilies, no perfume, no warmth. Just the sterile chill of an unoccupied space.

"Elena?" he called out, his voice echoing off the hardwood foyer.

No answer.

He walked into the master bedroom. The king bed was made—crisp, white, and untouched since the wedding night. On the mahogany desk sat the velvet ring box.

Austin crossed the room in three strides, snapping the box open. The diamonds caught the moonlight. Beside them lay the legal notification packet bearing the stamp of the Suffolk County Superior Court: Emergency Asset Freeze, Notice of Lis Pendens, and Petition for Dissolution of Marriage.

His phone buzzed immediately. It was his bank manager.

"Mr. Weaver, we’ve received a freeze order on all commercial and personal accounts originating from your primary residence. Your corporate card has been declined."

Austin dropped the phone. It shattered against the hardwood floor.
