Chapter 6 - The Confession Tape“What do you mean, the keys to their destruction?” I asked, stepping closer to the holographic display.

Damian tapped the screen, and a new window popped up—a secure audio file encrypted with military-grade security. The title on the file read: ZURICH_CLINIC_OPERATION_2024.

My heart skipped a beat.

“What is that?” I whispered.

“Insurance,” Damian replied coldly. “When I found out two years ago that my child didn’t die in that car bombing—when my intelligence network traced the forged death certificates back to that private clinic in Zurich—I didn’t just sit back. I had my best operatives hack the clinic’s private servers, wiretap the private communications of the directors, and record every single transaction made by the Moretti family.”

He pressed play.

A tinny, distorted audio recording began to play through the bunker’s speakers.

“...make sure the waitress is heavily sedated,” a cold, clinical voice spoke through the static. It was unmistakably the voice of Dr. Vance’s superior at the Zurich clinic—Director Althaus. “Tell her the baby’s heart stopped during the emergency procedure. Hand over the cremated ashes of an unclaimed medical waste specimen. Marco Moretti’s courier will pick up the healthy infant within the hour.”

Another voice answered—raspy, arrogant, instantly recognizable.

“Just make sure the girl doesn’t remember a damn thing when she wakes up. The boss wants Caruso to suffer, but we don’t need any loose ends tracing back to our syndicate. Use the Zurich bribe fund, and burn the paper trail after delivery.”

Marco Moretti’s laugh echoed through the bunker speakers, chilling my blood to absolute ice.

I stood frozen, the tears spilling down my cheeks again, but this time they weren't tears of grief. They were tears of vindication. The absolute proof. The undeniable, recorded confession of the men who had shattered my life.

“This…” I choked out, my hands trembling as I reached out and touched the edge of the console. “This can destroy them.”

“Not just destroy them,” Damian said, stepping right beside me, his shoulder brushing mine. “This goes public to every international banking commission, every federal agency, and every rival syndicate leader in Europe and America simultaneously. Within ten minutes of hitting ‘send,’ the Moretti family will have no money, no safe houses, no allies, and no hiding place.”

“Then what are we waiting for?” I hissed, staring up at him with unyielding determination. “Hit send.”

Damian smiled—a dark, terrifyingly handsome smile that showed he had finally found his equal.

“With pleasure, Clara.”
