Chapter 6 - THE FINAL BLOODLINE AND THE TWIST OF FATE

Daniel raised his pistol, aiming dead center at Beatrice’s chest. His finger tightened on the trigger, the hammer cocked back with a sharp, metallic click.

"Move away from her," Daniel growled, his voice trembling with a fury that could melt steel. "One inch, and I put a bullet through your heart."

Beatrice didn't flinch. She slowly stood up, smoothing the wrinkles of her skirt, and let out a soft, pitying sigh.

"Go ahead, Daniel. Shoot me," Beatrice challenged, spreading her arms wide. "If you kill me, you will spend the rest of your life in a maximum-security prison. And more importantly... you’ll never find the anti-coagulant antidote coursing through your wife’s veins right now."

Daniel’s breath caught in his throat. He looked at Elena. Her lips were turning a frightening shade of blue, and her eyelids were fluttering shut.

"You... you poisoned her?" Daniel gasped.

"Of course I did," Beatrice sneered, stepping closer to the operating table. "A precautionary measure. If I fall, she falls with me. That is the Vance way. Absolute control to the very bitter end."

Dr. Sterling panicked, dropping his scalpel onto the tile floor with a sharp metallic clatter. "Mrs. Vance, wait! The baby is ready! We can still save—"

"Shut up, you fool!" Beatrice snapped, turning her head toward the doctor.

That single second of distraction was all Daniel needed.

He didn't shoot Beatrice. Instead, with lightning speed, he pivoted his aim and fired a single round straight into the master electronic control panel mounted on the wall behind Beatrice.

SPARKS FLEW!

The high-voltage electrical box exploded in a shower of white-hot sparks and thick black smoke. The entire room plunged into pitch blackness, followed immediately by the blaring wail of emergency red backup alarms.

"What did you do?!" Beatrice screamed in sudden panic, her composure shattering for the first time in her life.

In the dark, Daniel didn't hesitate. He lunged across the room, tackling Beatrice to the floor and pinning her beneath his knee. With his free hand, he ripped the heavy gold pendant from her neck—the master digital key ring that controlled every smart lock, medical lock, and security override in the entire estate.

"Marcus! Get the antidote!" Daniel roared into the dark.

Marcus burst into the room carrying a medical kit, slamming a syringe of reversal agent straight into Elena’s IV line. Within seconds, Elena gasped, coughing violently as color rushed back into her pale cheeks.

"Daniel..." she wept, reaching out a trembling, unbound hand. "The baby... I feel contractions..."

Daniel dropped the gun, fell to his knees beside the table, and grabbed his wife’s hand, kissing her knuckles frantically. "I'm here. I'm right here. We're getting out of here, together."

On the floor beneath them, Beatrice struggled against Daniel’s grip, her face twisted in rage and disbelief.

"You think you've won?" Beatrice spat, blood trickling from a scratch on her cheek. "You're a weak fool, Daniel! Without me, the company will crumble! You'll lose everything!"

Daniel stood up slowly, looking down at the woman who had given him life, only to try and extinguish his family's. He didn't scream. He didn't curse. He simply pulled out the encrypted satellite phone Marcus had given him, dialed a pre-programmed number, and placed it on speaker.

"This is Daniel Vance," he said into the phone, his voice steady, ice-cold, and absolute. "Federal Securities and Exchange Commission? I wish to report massive corporate fraud, money laundering, and illegal asset embezzlement orchestrated by Beatrice Vance. I am uploading the encrypted financial archives right now."

Beatrice’s face went completely, deathly white. The impenetrable armor of the great matriarch finally shattered into a million irreparable pieces.

"No..." Beatrice whispered, sinking back against the cold concrete floor. "You wouldn't... you're a Vance."

"No, Mother," Daniel said, pulling Elena gently into his arms as the wailing sirens of federal police cars echoed faintly from the gates above. "I'm a father."
