Chapter 10 - The Horizon

Three weeks later, the autumn sunlight streamed warmly through the bay windows of our new home—a quiet, sun-drenched coastal cottage three hundred miles away from the toxic shadows of the city.
The legal battles were entirely behind us. The DOJ’s sweeping RICO investigation had dismantled the entire Sterling Syndicate, sending Marcus, Vanessa, and several compromised judges to federal prison for decades. My corporate assets had been fully restored, and my tech firm was now operating under an ethical board of directors dedicated to community outreach and transparency.
Out on the back lawn, Lily was running through the sprinklers with unbridled laughter, her cheeks flushed with healthy color and a plate of warm chocolate chip cookies waiting for her on the patio table.
Mason sat beside me on the wooden porch swing, whittling a small piece of pine wood with his pocketknife—a skill his grandfather had taught him years ago.
"Dad," Mason said quietly, not looking up from his carving. "Do you think we’ll ever have to look over our shoulders again?"

"Never again, buddy," I whispered, smiling as the salt breeze kissed our faces. "The pantry is always unlocked, the doors are open, and our story belongs entirely to us now."
