Chapter 6 - A New Horizon

Six months later, the autumn leaves painted the sprawling lawns of the Sterling estate in brilliant shades of gold and amber. The oppressive, cold atmosphere that had once choked the mansion was completely gone, replaced by the warm, vibrant hum of life, laughter, and genuine peace.
In the expansive glass-walled courtyard, Ava stood leaning slightly against parallel rehabilitation bars, her legs trembling with exertion, but her determination burning brighter than ever.
Ethan stood right in front of her, holding her hands, his eyes shining with unspeakable pride and unshed tears.
"You've got this, sweetheart. Take your time. I've got you," Ethan murmured softly, his voice full of encouragement.
Ava took a deep breath, focusing every ounce of her strength. Slowly, deliberately, she shifted her weight and forced her right foot forward, planting it firmly on the polished wood floor.
"I... I did it," she gasped out, a triumphant, radiant smile breaking across her face as tears of pure joy spilled over her lashes.
"You did it!" Ethan cheered, pulling her gently into his arms as she collapsed laughing against his chest.
Off to the side, Lena stood clapping enthusiastically, wiping a happy tear from her cheek as she held a tray of fresh lemonade. "That calls for a celebration! I’ll get the champagne!"
"Hold on, Lena," Ethan said, gently pulling back from Ava and looking around the sunlit courtyard. "Before we celebrate, there's something we need to do."
Ava looked at him, her eyes curious. "What is it?"
Ethan walked over to a heavy wooden crate resting against the courtyard wall. It contained the remaining boxes of Margaret’s old legal ledgers, financial files, and personal archives left behind in the estate office—symbols of a dark, manipulative past that still needed a final farewell.
"Help me carry these out to the fire pit," Ethan said with a reassuring smile.
A few minutes later, a bright, roaring fire crackled in the stone hearth in the center of the garden. The orange flames danced hungiously against the crisp autumn air.
One by one, Ethan and Ava threw the forged contracts, the medical tampering records, and the dark relics of Margaret’s conspiracy into the fire. They watched as the paper curled, blackened, and turned to glowing embers, rising into the clear blue sky until every trace of the past was completely reduced to ash.
Ava wrapped her arms around Ethan’s waist, resting her head against his shoulder as the warmth of the fire washed over them.
"It's really gone," she whispered softly.
May you like
"Everything is gone," Ethan agreed, pressing a tender kiss into her hair as he looked out past the garden gates toward the endless horizon. "Except us. And our future."
The fire crackled warmly, casting a golden glow over the two of them—a brilliant, unbroken beginning written in the light of absolute truth.
