Chapter 4 - THE LIQUIDATION OF THE VALE ESTATEAdrian stood frozen, his eyes wide, his breathing fast and shallow. The illusion of his power had shattered in less than fifteen minutes.

"Board members," Elena said, her voice echoing clearly through the massive room as she turned away from Adrian. "As majority shareholder controlling sixty-three percent of Halcyon Hotels, I move for an immediate vote to terminate Adrian Vale from all executive positions, void his employment contract for cause, and institute a permanent ban against him from entering any Halcyon property worldwide."

"Seconded," three board members shouted simultaneously, eager to distance themselves from the drowning man.

"All in favor?" Elena asked.

Every single hand in the room went up. Even the directors who had sold their proxy votes to Adrian raised their hands, terrified of facing Elena's wrath.

"Motion passed unanimously," Elena said coldly. She turned back to Adrian. "You are fired, Mr. Vale. Marcus, please escort former employee Adrian Vale off the premises."

"Wait! Elena, wait!" Adrian screamed as Marcus and two heavy security guards grabbed his arms, pinning them behind his back. "We're married! We signed the marriage certificate! Under state law, half of your income during our marriage belongs to me! You can't just throw me out! I am your husband!"

Elena turned back, pulling a slender white envelope from her suit jacket. She tossed it onto the glass table, where it slid until it hit Adrian’s chest.

"We never signed the registry, Adrian," she said with a chilling smile. "You were so busy trying to force me to sign the fraudulent share transfer at the altar that you forgot to have the priest sign the actual legal marriage certificate. We were never legally married. You are not my husband. You are just a man who committed a felony assault on live camera."

"No... NO!" Celeste shrieked from the back, lunging toward Elena with her fingernails extended like claws. "You bitch! You ruined my son! You ruined our family!"

Before Celeste could reach Elena, two female federal marshals intercepted her, slamming her hands behind her back and clicking steel handcuffs around her wrists.

"Celeste Vale," the lead marshal declared, "you are under arrest for accessory to corporate fraud, conspiracy to commit extortion, and tax evasion."

"Tax evasion?!" Celeste screamed, struggling against the cuffs. "What are you talking about?! I am a Vale! My family built this city!"

"Your family built a house of cards, Mrs. Vale," Pendelton, Elena’s attorney, chimed in smoothly. "While you were busy planning yesterday's lavish wedding, our forensic accounting team spent the night reviewing the financial records of Vale Enterprises. It appears your son has been using fraudulent collateral to secure loans from offshore banks to cover your family's massive gambling debts in Macau."

Adrian’s face drained of what little color remained. "How... how did you find out about Macau?"

"You left your personal laptop in the bridal suite yesterday after I left," Elena said softly, stepping closer to him. "Did you really think I wouldn't check your browsing history, your encrypted emails, and your bank transfers? You owe twenty-four million dollars to a triad-backed syndicate in Hong Kong, Adrian. And you promised to pay them back today using Halcyon's assets."

"Elena... please," Adrian begged, his voice breaking into a sob as the guards began dragging him toward the door. "Please, don't do this. I loved you! I was just stressed! The pressure of the debt made me crazy! I'll fix it! I'll go to therapy! Just help me with the debt... they will kill me, Elena! They will literally kill me!"

Elena looked at him, her eyes completely devoid of mercy.

"You should have thought about that before you put your hands on me," she said calmly.

"Take them away."

As the security team dragged Adrian and Celeste out of the boardroom, their frantic screams echoed down the long marble hallway.

The directors sat in terrified silence, staring at the twenty-six-year-old woman who had just dismantled one of the city's oldest elites in a single morning.

Elena turned to the board, adjusting the lapels of her red suit.

"Now, gentlemen," she said softly, sitting down at the head of the table. "Let us talk about restructuring."
