Chapter 3 - Paradise LostThree thousand miles away, under the blistering Mexican sun, Daniel Hartman was having the time of his life—until reality hit him like a freight train.

He and Celeste were lounging by the infinity pool of an exclusive five-star resort, tropical drinks sweating in their hands, scrolling through comments on their latest joint Instagram post. The caption read: Escaped the noise. Finding our true peace.
"Look at this, babe," Celeste laughed, tossing her designer sunglasses onto the lounge chair. "That lifestyle blogger with a million followers just commented ‘Couple goals!’ People are obsessed with us."
Daniel grinned, leaning over to kiss her shoulder, feeling like a titan of industry who could conquer the world. "Of course they are. We’re unstoppable, Celeste. Once I finalize the divorce with Grace—she’s too weak to fight me anyway, probably sitting at home crying into her nursing pads—we’ll launch our own luxury brokerage out in Miami. Total domination."
Right on cue, Daniel’s phone buzzed violently against the glass table.
It wasn't one notification. It was a relentless, unbroken stream of pings.
"Ugh, probably just corporate asking about the quarterly reports," Daniel muttered, picking up the phone with an annoyed sigh. He swiped the screen, expecting an email from his secretary.
Instead, his screen was flooded with bank fraud alerts, corporate asset freeze notifications, and a high-priority PDF attachment from a name that made his blood run instantly cold: Vance & Sterling Attorneys at Law.
Daniel clicked the file with trembling fingers. His eyes darted across the bold legal headings: EMERGENCY EX-PARTE RESTRAINING ORDER, MOTION FOR DISSIPATION OF MARITAL ASSETS, AND NOTICE OF CRIMINAL COMPLAINT FOR CHILD ENDANGERMENT.
"What... what is this?" Daniel muttered, his face draining of color so fast that his deep vacation tan turned a sickly, grayish yellow.
"Daniel? What’s wrong? You look like you’ve seen a ghost," Celeste asked, her smile faltering as she sat up.
"My... my cards," Daniel stammered, frantically tapping his banking app. Account Frozen. Balance: $0.00. He tried his personal credit card. Declined. He tried the corporate line. Account Frozen.
"My God, my accounts are locked! All of them!" Daniel shouted, standing up so abruptly he knocked his cocktail glass crashing onto the stone patio, spilling red liquid like blood across the white tiles. "Grace... Grace did this!"
"Grace? Your mopey, stay-at-home wife?" Celeste scoffed, though panic flickered in her eyes. "Call her! Tell her to drop it!"
Daniel dialed my number with shaking hands.
Line busy.
He dialed again.
Your call cannot be completed as dialed. This number is no longer in service.
"She changed her number," Daniel breathed, horror gripping his chest like a vise. He looked at Celeste, his voice cracking. "We... we have to go home. Right now."

"Go home? How?!" Celeste shrieked, looking down at her designer clothes and zero available funds. "Our return flights aren't until Friday, and my credit cards are declining too!"
Daniel stared at her in sheer, unadulterated terror as the bitter realization finally hit him: He hadn't left a helpless, trapped woman behind. He had poked a sleeping dragon, and the dragon was about to incinerate him.
