Chapter 8 - The Final JudgmentWhen court resumed for the afternoon session, the atmosphere was thick with electric anticipation. Everyone in the room knew the verdict was going to be an absolute annihilation.

Judge Sterling adjusted his glasses once more, looking slowly around the courtroom before fixing his gaze directly on Daniel Hartman, who stood shakily at the defense table.
"Mr. Hartman," Judge Sterling began, his voice deep, resonant, and dripping with unmasked contempt. "In my thirty years on the bench, I have presided over thousands of contentious divorces and bitter family disputes. But rarely have I encountered a display of such profound selfishness, callous neglect, and absolute moral bankruptcy as the one presented in this courtroom."
Daniel swallowed hard, tears streaming down his hollow cheeks, his lips trembling as he tried to speak. "Your Honor... please... I made a terrible mistake—"
"Silence, Mr. Hartman," Judge Sterling cut him off sharply, raising a single finger. "You did not make a mistake. Mistakes are accidents of judgment. What you exhibited was a calculated, callous abandonment of your sacred duty as a father and a husband."
The judge picked up his heavy wooden stamp, holding it suspended over the final stack of documents.
"I am issuing the following rulings, effective immediately:"
Judge Sterling’s voice boomed across the courtroom, reading out every single item on our master list of demands:
Full and Sole Custody: Grace Hartman is granted 100% sole legal and physical custody of the minor child, Noah Hartman. Daniel Hartman’s parental rights are permanently terminated, with zero visitation rights until the child reaches majority age, subject to psychiatric evaluation.
Total Asset Forfeiture: All marital assets, real estate holdings, luxury vehicles, and corporate shares of Hartman & Sterling Properties are hereby awarded exclusively to Grace Hartman as restitution for financial fraud, emotional distress, and gross marital misconduct. Daniel Hartman is left with zero percent ownership and zero financial equity.
Corporate and Criminal Restitution: Daniel Hartman is ordered to pay $1.5 million in punitive damages and legal fees to Grace Hartman, alongside immediate remand into federal custody to face pending criminal charges for child endangerment, neglect, and corporate wire fraud.
THUD.
The heavy stamp slammed down onto the final document, sealing Daniel’s doom with a sound that felt like a guillotine blade dropping.
"Bailiff," Judge Sterling commanded, standing up from his chair. "Take the prisoner into custody."
Two bailiffs immediately stepped forward, grabbing Daniel by both arms. Daniel didn't fight back. He collapsed completely, his knees buckling as the bailiffs dragged him away from the defense table, his desperate, howling sobs echoing off the marble walls of the courtroom.
"Grace! Grace, please! Have mercy! Please!" Daniel screamed, thrashing as they pulled him toward the heavy wooden exit doors.
I didn't turn around. I didn't flinch. I sat perfectly upright at my table, closing my leather briefcase with a satisfying, crisp snap.
Vivian Hartman, sitting in the front row of the gallery, slumped forward in her seat, burying her face in her hands as her own impending criminal indictment loomed like a dark cloud over her head.
Marcus Vance leaned over, extending his hand across the table with a wide, triumphant grin.
"Well played, Counselor," Marcus murmured respectfully. "Absolute perfection."

I shook his hand firmly, standing up and smoothing down the lapels of my Tom Ford blazer.
"Thank you, Marcus," I said softly, a brilliant, genuine smile finally breaking across my face. "Now... it’s time to go home to my son."
