Chapter 1: The Man They Left to Die

The emergency room doors burst open just after midnight.
Rainwater dripped from the torn jacket of a homeless-looking man as a frightened teenage girl struggled to keep him standing.
"Please!" she cried, her voice cracking. "My dad can't breathe! Somebody help him!"
Doctors glanced over.
Nurses froze for a second.
Then one receptionist asked the question that changed everything.
"Insurance?"
The girl blinked.
"We... we don't have any."
The receptionist sighed as if she'd heard the answer a thousand times.
"I'm sorry. Without insurance or an emergency deposit, you'll have to wait."
"WAIT?" the girl screamed. "He's dying!"
Her father collapsed onto the polished hospital floor, clutching his chest.
Patients in the waiting room watched in silence.
Some looked away.
Others secretly recorded everything on their phones.
The man gasped for air, his lips turning blue.
"Please..." he whispered.
"No one deserves to die like this."
But no one moved.
One young intern stepped forward.
"We have to treat him."
Before she could kneel beside the man, the hospital administrator grabbed her arm.
"Don't."
"What?"
"He's uninsured."
"Hospital policy."
The intern stared in disbelief.
"Policy? He's having a heart attack!"
The administrator's face remained cold.
"If we treat every homeless person who walks in here, this hospital will go bankrupt."
The daughter fell to her knees.
"I'll work."
"I'll clean."
"I'll wash dishes."
"I'll pay every dollar back."
"Just save my father."
Silence.
The security guards slowly approached.
One of them quietly said,
"I'm sorry... but you'll have to leave."
The crowd gasped.
A security guard was actually trying to remove a dying man from the emergency room.
At that exact moment...
An elderly janitor who had been silently mopping the hallway stopped.
He looked closely at the unconscious man's face.
His mop slipped from his hands.
His entire body began shaking.
"No..."
"It can't be..."
The old janitor whispered only three words.
"Mr. Jonathan Hayes?"
Every doctor nearby suddenly turned toward him.
The unconscious homeless man slowly opened one eye...
...and whispered a name that made the janitor nearly collapse.
"Samuel..."
The old janitor burst into tears.
"Oh my God..."
"He's alive."
No one in the hospital understood why.

But within the next ten minutes...
The entire hospital would be thrown into absolute chaos.
