Chapter 3: The Secret That Shook the Hospital

The emergency room exploded into chaos.

Doctors who had ignored Jonathan Hayes only minutes earlier were suddenly pushing each other toward the operating room.

"Clear the hallway!"

"Prep Surgery One!"

"We're losing him!"

The same administrator who had ordered security to remove Jonathan now stood frozen, unable to speak.

The silver-haired woman turned toward him.

"Five minutes ago, you said my husband wasn't worth saving."

Her voice was calm.

That terrified him even more.

"I... I didn't know..."

"No," she interrupted.

"You never wanted to know."

Every employee lowered their heads.

The teenage girl looked around in confusion.

"You... you know my dad?"

The woman smiled through tears.

"My name is Eleanor Hayes."

"I'm your grandmother."

The girl stared at her in disbelief.

"What?"

Before another word could be spoken, the operating room doors slammed shut.

A red light above them flashed.

SURGERY IN PROGRESS.

Silence filled the hallway.

Then another convoy of black SUVs arrived outside.

Not bodyguards this time.

Federal investigators.

Every conversation stopped.

The lead investigator walked straight to the hospital director.

"Nobody leaves this building."

The director swallowed hard.

"W-what is this about?"

The investigator placed a thick folder on the counter.

"We've been searching for Jonathan Hayes for twenty-three years."

"And today..."

He slowly looked around the hospital.

"...we finally found him."

Everyone expected relief.

Instead...

The investigator asked a question that made the room go cold.

"Who knew he was alive before tonight?"

No one answered.

Then...

A trembling nurse quietly raised her hand.

"I..."

"I think someone did."

Every eye turned toward her.

"I've seen that man before."

The hallway fell completely silent.

"You've seen him?"

She nodded.

"He came here six months ago."

"He begged to see his medical records."

"But someone ordered us to erase his visit."

The investigator's face hardened.

"Who gave that order?"

May you like

The nurse slowly pointed toward the hospital director.

The director's knees nearly gave out.
