Chapter 18 - Peace in the Shadows

Two years later, the quiet mountain cabin in the Adirondacks where Serena had hidden during Niko’s birth was restored—not as a hideout, but as a private family sanctuary.

The snow fell softly outside the massive glass windows of the renovated lodge. Inside, three-year-old Niko chased a golden retriever across the plush rug, laughing hysterically as Lucien scooped him up into the air, tossing him gently onto the sofa.

Serena stood by the stone fireplace, holding a cup of hot tea, watching them with a quiet, fulfilled smile.

Lucien walked over, wrapping his arms around her waist from behind, resting his chin on her shoulder just as he had done in the cabin years ago. But everything was different now. There was no guilt, no betrayal, no distance between them.
