Chapter 3 - The Gala of VenomThree days later. The Grand Ballroom of the Plaza Hotel.

Crystal chandeliers hung from gilded ceilings, illuminating Manhattan's elite. Billionaires, politicians, real estate tycoons, and media moguls moved across the floor with champagne flutes in hand.
At the center of attention stood Gavin Mercer, wearing a tailored Tom Ford tuxedo, flanked by Miriam Cole in a diamond-encrusted silver gown. Gavin was glowing, accepting congratulations from senators and international investors.
"To the future of Manhattan real estate!" Gavin raised his glass to a circle of reporters. "The Hudson Plaza design represents three years of my personal dedication. Tomorrow, construction begins on what will be the tallest, most eco-innovative skyscraper on the East Coast!"
"A brilliant vision, Mr. Mercer," a reporter from The Wall Street Journal praised. "Though rumors circulating online claim your former lead designer, Elena Whitlock, was let go under... chaotic circumstances earlier this week?"
Gavin’s smile didn't flicker, though his eyes hardened slightly. "Elena was a valued junior team member, but unfortunately, she suffered a severe personal breakdown. We had to terminate her contract for her own well-being. It’s sad, but Mercer Group moves forward."
Miriam chimed in, squeezing Gavin’s arm. "Gavin was far too generous with her. Some people simply cannot handle high-level pressure."
Suddenly, the heavy oak doors at the back of the ballroom slammed open.
The laughter and chatter died down as a cold hush swept across the room.
Walking through the entrance was Elena Whitlock.
She was unrecognizable. Her dark hair was styled in sleek, vintage waves. She wore a floor-length emerald silk dress that hugged her curves and exposed a striking, elegant back. On her neck sat a choker of black diamonds that shimmered like crushed ice under the chandeliers.
And walking beside her, holding her hand with quiet authority, was Damian Vescari.
Gasps echoed through the room.
"Is that... Vescari?" a high-society matriarch whispered.
"Who is the woman with him? She looks like..."
Gavin’s face drained of color. The champagne glass in his hand trembled. Miriam froze, her eyes wide with shock and fury.
Elena walked straight down the center aisle of the ballroom, her heel clicking rhythmically against the marble floor. Her posture was regal, her eyes burning with icy confidence.
Gavin stepped forward, trying to maintain his composure, though sweat was breaking out on his forehead. "Elena? What is the meaning of this? This is a private corporate event. Security—"
"Security isn't going to touch her, Mercer," Damian’s voice echoed across the quiet hall. It was quiet, but it possessed an authority that stopped the guards in their tracks.
Damian stepped beside Elena, placing a heavy, protective hand on the small of her back. "Miss Whitlock is here tonight as my personal guest and the principal architectural advisor to Vescari Holdings."
Gavin swallowed hard, panic darting across his eyes. "Damian... Mr. Vescari. I didn't know you had a business relationship with my former junior designer. But if she’s trying to sell you proprietary Mercer Group concepts—"
"Proprietary?" Elena interrupted, her voice ringing clear as a bell across the ballroom. She stepped into the center of the media circle, turning to face the cameras.
"You mean the Hudson Plaza project, Gavin? The design you just claimed as your personal vision?"
"Elena, stop this embarrassing scene!" Miriam snapped, taking a step toward her. "You were fired! You have no standing here!"
Elena didn't even look at Miriam. She reached into her clutch and pulled out a sleek silver flash drive, holding it up for the reporters to see.
"In five minutes," Elena announced, "every major legal and news outlet in New York will receive an encrypted file containing the original CAD files, structural calculations, and digital watermarks for the Hudson Plaza design. All dated two years before Mercer Group filed for patents. Created on my personal server, under my personal copyright."
The room erupted into mutters. Camera flashes began going off like lightning.
"She’s lying!" Gavin yelled, his composure completely cracking. "She stole those files from my office before she was terminated!"
"Is that so?" Damian smiled coldly. He pulled a black document folder from his jacket and tossed it onto the head table, right into the middle of Gavin’s champagne display.
"That folder contains the forensic audit of Mercer Group’s accounts," Damian said loudly enough for every reporter to hear. "Along with a formal legal notice from Vescari Holdings. As of eight o'clock tonight, I have acquired 100 percent of the debt notes on your $500 million project loan. And because your loan application was submitted using fraudulent intellectual property declarations..."
May you like
Damian paused, taking a step toward Gavin until he towered over him.
"...I am calling the loan due immediately. Full repayment of five hundred million dollars is required by 9:00 AM tomorrow."
