Chapter 10 - The Ultimate BetrayalEthan's hands shook as he lifted the manila envelope from the safe. He pulled out a stack of crisp, untampered medical records and a series of photographs taken inside a private research facility in Geneva—dated after Diana's supposed death.

She wasn't dead.
She had been alive this entire time, hidden away by a syndicate that realized her brilliance in neural-biometric mapping was worth more to global intelligence agencies than any commercial tech company could ever imagine.
And Marcus hadn't been the mastermind. Marcus had been her warden.
Suddenly, the overhead fluorescent lights in the warehouse flickered violently and buzzed to life, casting a harsh, sterile glow over the room.
The heavy iron entrance door slammed shut behind them with a deafening crash, automatically locking from the outside.
From the shadows near the ceiling catwalk, a slow, rhythmic clapping echoed through the vast open space.
"Magnificent, Ethan," a voice called out—not Marcus's voice, but a smooth, cultured, chillingly familiar voice that Ethan hadn't heard in a decade. "You always were the best coder I ever trained. It took you a little longer than I expected to find the breadcrumbs, but you got there in the end."
From the upper platform, a figure stepped into the light. It wasn't an assassin, and it wasn't a corporate rival.
It was Arthur Vance—the former Director of National Security Intelligence and the silent venture capitalist who had funded Cole Security Systems on day one.
"Arthur..." Ethan breathed, stepping in front of Ray as his security chief raised his weapon toward the catwalk. "You funded the company. You staged Diana's death."
"We didn't stage her death, Ethan; we staged her rescue," Arthur smiled calmly, leaning against the metal railing. "Diana discovered that the biometric encryption you were building could be used to control civilian infrastructure remotely. She wanted to destroy the code. Marcus and I simply ensured that she went where her talents would be truly appreciated—and we ensured that you spent the next ten years building the ultimate global network to support it."
Arthur gestured toward the security monitor on the wall, which suddenly lit up with a live feed of the Cole Estate in the hills.

On the screen, two armed tactical operatives in unmarked black gear were standing on the back patio, lifting a struggling, terrified Noah off the ground while Lily cried out in the background, clutching her gray stuffed rabbit.
"The flight was never just about liquidating Marcus's rivalries, Ethan," Arthur said softly, his voice echoing coldly across the empty warehouse. "It was a compatibility test. And now that you've passed... it's time to hand over the master keys. Or the boy—and your daughter—won't survive the night."
