Chapter 7 - The Unseen ShadowHigh above the clouds, thousands of feet in the stratosphere, a chartered cargo flight hummed quietly through the upper atmosphere.

Inside the darkened cargo hold, far away from passenger seats and flight attendants, a single laptop sat wired directly into the satellite relay transponder that Marcus Hail had supposedly scrubbed clean.

The screen blinked.

A progress bar ticked upward: 99%... 100%.

A text dialogue box popped up on the terminal, running an automated script that bypassed federal encryption firewalls entirely: DATA TRANSFER COMPLETE. TARGET ACQUIRED.

In a luxury penthouse in Geneva, Switzerland, a pair of immaculate, leather-gloved hands closed a secure cryptographic notebook. An elderly man with silver hair and piercing blue eyes watched the stock ticker of Cole Security Systems on a wall-mounted display.

Cole Security's stock had miraculously rebounded after Marcus's arrest, surging twenty points on news of internal restructuring and federal vindication.

The elderly man smiled, taking a slow sip of espresso.

Marcus Hail was a disposable pawn. The real board of directors—the syndicate that had funded Cole Security's earliest patents back in Austin twenty years ago—didn't care about Marcus's petty greed. They wanted something much larger.

They wanted the master biometric encryption keys to every government database on the planet. And Ethan Cole had just walked right back into the trap.
