Chapter 6 - The Promise KeptThree days later, the rain had completely washed away, leaving the Texas air crisp and clean.

At a private aviation facility on the outskirts of the city, a sleek Gulfstream sat idling on the tarmac. But Ethan wasn't flying to Zurich for a board meeting. He was heading home.
Standing by the boarding ramp was Noah, wearing a brand-new jacket, fresh sneakers, and holding a heavy canvas backpack stuffed with books and electronics. Beside him stood his mother, a tired, resilient woman who had spent the last forty-eight hours in federal protection, still struggling to comprehend how her homeless teenage son had managed to save a billionaire's life.
"Mr. Cole," Noah said shyly, shifting his weight from foot to foot as Ethan approached.
Ethan knelt down to eye level, placing a firm, warm hand on the boy's shoulder. "Ethan. Just Ethan, Noah."
"Are you really leaving?" Noah asked, looking toward the private jet.
"I am," Ethan smiled softly. "I'm taking a very long vacation. No board meetings, no spreadsheets, and no corporate phones for at least a month." He reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a heavy titanium keycard embossed with the Cole Security crest. "This opens the front gate of the estate in the hills. Your mother has a job waiting for her as head of our private botanical gardens, and you're enrolled starting Monday at the St. Jude Academy."
Noah's eyes went wide as saucers as he stared at the keycard. "I... I don't know what to say."
May you like
"You don't have to say anything," Ethan stood up, looking past them toward the horizon where his eight-year-old daughter, Lily, was running across the grass with her ratty gray stuffed rabbit, Cosmo, clutched tightly in her arms. "You saved my life, Noah. It's time someone helped secure yours."
As Noah and his mother boarded the support vehicle, Ethan turned toward his jet, ready to finally board a plane without looking back.
