Chapter 4 - Betrayal on Stage

HOOK: Sabotage is an ugly thing, but desperation is uglier. When Daniel tried to destroy Leo’s music hours before the show, he walked straight into a trap designed to ruin him on live television.

The night of the showcase arrived. The theater was packed with critics, celebrities, and millions watching via livestream on Facebook and TV. The pressure was suffocating.

In the dressing room, Leo was stretching. His face was a mask of concentration.

An hour before the curtain rose, Daniel slipped into the audio control room. He knew he couldn't beat Leo fairly. Using a master key Julian had provided, he found the digital audio file for Leo's performance. With trembling fingers, he replaced the high-quality Stravinsky track with a corrupted version that would skip and distort midway through, throwing Leo off-balance and ruining his timing on live television.

"Done," Daniel whispered, slipping back into the shadows.

The show began. Daniel went first. His choreography was sharp, athletic, and mathematically perfect. The crowd cheered loudly. Daniel walked off the stage, wiping his sweat, a smug smile on his face. Let’s see him dance to a broken track, he thought.

Leo stepped onto the stage under a single spotlight. The music started. It was powerful, heavy. Leo moved like a storm, his body narrating a story of pain, betrayal, and survival.

Then came the two-minute mark—the exact moment Daniel had corrupted the file.

Suddenly, the music violently glitched, shrieking loudly before dying out completely. The theater fell into a shocked, deadly silence. The livestream comments exploded with confusion.

Daniel smiled from the wings. It’s over for him.

But Leo didn't stop.

Instead of panicking, Leo used the silence. The only sound in the theater was the rhythmic, powerful thud of his ballet shoes hitting the stage floor. He kept the tempo perfectly in his head. His movements became even more aggressive, more breathtaking. The sheer raw emotion of a man dancing in absolute silence captivated the audience. It wasn't a mistake anymore; it was a masterpiece.

When Leo finished with a dramatic, breathless fall to the floor, the theater remained silent for three seconds—before exploding into the loudest standing ovation in the academy's history.

Elena walked onto the stage, holding a microphone. She didn't look at Leo; she looked directly into the wings where Daniel stood.

"An incredible performance," Elena said into the microphone, her voice echoing globally. "Especially considering someone deliberately tampered with the audio files from the backstage computer just forty minutes ago. A computer that requires a specific digital fingerprint to access."

Daniel’s heart stopped.

THE NEXT HOOK: Elena didn't just catch Daniel. She had a live video feed of him doing it, ready to project onto the giant screen behind her. But the biggest twist was yet to come—because Daniel wasn't the mastermind.
