Chapter 6 - THE ULTIMATE BETRAYAL (THE shock ENDING)

Victoria slowly stood up, wiping the blood from her chin. The look of psychotic rage on her face had completely vanished, replaced by a cold, calculating, triumphant smile.

She reached into her jacket and pulled out a small, encrypted black flash drive.

"Did you really think I was going to rot in prison with you, Julian?" Victoria said, her voice smooth and entirely devoid of panic.

Maya looked between Julian and Victoria, completely stunned. "What... what are you talking about?"

Victoria chuckled, a dark, low sound. "Julian thought he was the mastermind of this entire operation. He thought he was using me as the face of the fraud. But six months ago, when I realized the FBI was getting close to tracing our offshore accounts, I made a deal."

Julian’s hands began to shake violently, his gun wavering between Maya and his wife. "You... you traitress... I built this empire for us!"

"You built an empire on sloppy paperwork and arrogance," Victoria spat. "The FBI agreed to grant me full immunity and state witness protection—under one condition: I had to deliver you, the entire ledger, and absolute proof of your direct involvement in the murders."

"The cast..." Maya whispered, the realization hitting her like a freight train. "The folded note in the cast..."

Victoria turned to Maya, nodding with chilling approval. "I knew you were spying on me, Maya. I saw you following my car three weeks ago. I knew you were looking for an opening to break into my room. So, I deliberately let my toe twitch. I deliberately planted that note in my hollowed cast, knowing your stubborn, vengeful little heart couldn't resist calling me out in front of Dr. Vance."

Maya felt her stomach drop. She hadn't exposed Victoria.

Victoria had used her as a pawn.

"You used me..." Maya breathed, horror dawning on her. "You used my mother's death... to set up your husband and take immunity!"

"You were the perfect catalyst, sweetheart," Victoria purred. "A grieving, frantic daughter making a scene in Room 408! It forced Julian to panic, forced him to order a lethal lockdown, and forced him to pull out his gun on camera. You gave the FBI the absolute, undeniable proof of imminent murder they needed to execute a federal raid without a warrant."

"You sick, evil bitch!" Julian screamed, turning his gun away from Maya and aiming it straight at Victoria’s heart!

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

The tactical doors of Wing C were instantly blown off their hinges by flashbang grenades!

Blinding white light and deafening sound exploded through the room! SWAT officers in heavy body armor surged in, screaming commands:

"FBI! DROP YOUR WEAPONS! ON THE GROUND NOW! ON THE GROUND!"

Julian was tackled to the floor by four heavy operators before he could pull the trigger. His gun clattered away as he was slammed into the concrete, screaming curses at his wife.

Victoria calmly raised her hands, smiling as two federal agents walked up to her, politely placing soft zip-ties on her wrists as part of her protective custody agreement.

"Agent Thorne," Victoria said smoothly to the lead officer. "The flash drive contains everything. I fulfilled my end of the plea bargain. I am free to go under protection."

Agent Thorne took the flash drive, plugged it into his wrist tablet, and verified the encryption keys. He nodded. "The data is complete. Immunity agreement verified."

Victoria turned to Maya, giving her a small, mocking wink as she was escorted toward the exit. "Thank you for playing your part, little girl. Your mother would be so proud of how useful you were."

Maya stood frozen in the middle of the ruined room, surrounded by police, flashing blue lights, and shattered glass. She had won. Julian was going to prison forever. Her mother’s name was cleared.

But as she watched Victoria walk away into freedom—completely immune from prosecution for her mother’s murder—a cold, suffocating despair washed over her.

The law hadn't delivered justice. It had delivered a deal.

Agent Thorne walked over to Maya, handing her a blanket. "It’s over, kid. You’re safe now. We’ve got medical staff coming for your friend Sarah."

Maya didn't put the blanket on. She stared at the back of Victoria’s head as the evil woman stepped into the pristine white federal transport van waiting outside.

Victoria turned around one last time, blowing Maya a sarcastic kiss before the heavy armored door slid shut.

The van pulled away into the rainy night, escorted by police cruisers.

Maya stood alone on the wet asphalt, the rain soaking through her clothes. She reached deep into her pocket... and her fingers wrapped around a small, heavy silver object she had snatched off the mortuary floor during the struggle.

It was Victoria’s personal satellite phone—the one connected to her offshore bank accounts and her private medical logs.

Maya flipped the phone open. On the screen was a draft text message Victoria had been writing just before the SWAT team burst in.

It was addressed to an unknown number in Switzerland:

“Phase 1 complete. Julian is framed and neutralized. Proceed with Phase 2: Eliminate the girl, Maya Vance, as soon as the federal escort leaves city limits.”

Maya stared at the screen. The rain dripped off her chin.

Victoria had never intended to let her live. The game wasn't over.

Maya slowly closed the phone, a dark, terrifying transformation coming over her eyes. The helpless orphan was gone. The victim was dead.

Maya looked down at the street where the federal van had vanished, her voice a deadly, whispered vow against the wind:

"Part 2 is over, Victoria... now comes the execution."
