"Why didn't you tell me?" Luca’s voice was a low, dangerous rumble that shook the small room.
Elena pulled the blanket tighter around her chest, tears spilling down her pale cheeks. "How could I, Luca? Look at your life! You live in a fortress surrounded by guns, blood, and death. Four years ago, when you stumbled into my apartment covered in blood, I didn't know you were a mafia Don. I just saw a dying man."
"You saved my life," Luca said, stepping closer to the bed. "And then you vanished."
"I didn't vanish! You left in the middle of the night to protect me, leaving a jacket behind. A month later, I found out I was pregnant. When I tried to find you, I saw your face on the news—associated with a massive cartel shooting. I realized who you were. I was terrified for my baby."
Elena sobbed, her shoulders shaking. "Then, a year ago, my apartment burned down. I lost everything. I was desperate, starving. Harland approached me. He offered me a job at your mansion. He said it was 'charity.' I thought it was a miracle. I thought I could be near you, let Nora see her father from afar, without ever endangering your empire."
Luca’s jaw clenched so hard a muscle twitched in his cheek. "Harland didn't hire you out of charity, Elena. He found out Nora was mine. He kept you locked in the servant's quarters, paying you pennies, starving you, so he could use you as the ultimate blackmail chip against me when the Morettis finally moved to take over New York."
Elena gasped, her face turning pale. "No... oh god, no... I put her in danger..."
"You didn't put her in danger. They did," Luca said fiercely, sitting on the edge of the bed and taking her hand. His touch was surprisingly gentle. "And I am going to burn their world to the ground for it."
Suddenly, a tiny voice broke the heavy silence.
"Mama?"
Nora stood at the doorway, rubbing her eyes, clutching a ragged teddy bear Marco had found for her. She looked at Luca, then at her mother's tear-stained face.
"Is the bad man gone?" Nora whispered, stepping into the room.
Luca looked at his daughter. The fierce, terrifying Don of New York felt a tear slip down his own cheek. He extended his arms. Nora hesitated for a split second, then ran toward him, burying her small face in his chest.
"The bad men are never coming back, Nora," Luca promised, kissing the top of her head. "I swear it on my life."

He looked at Elena, a silent vow passing between them. But their moment of peace was violently shattered when Marco burst into the room, his face covered in sweat.
"Boss! We’ve got a problem. The sensors just went dark. They found us. The Morettis are outside—and they brought an army."
