CHAPTER 7 — The Choice That Changed a Monster Forever

The mechanical voice echoed through every hallway.
"Fifty-five seconds until detonation."
Doctors screamed.
Smoke poured through the ventilation system.
Children cried behind locked doors.
Marco's voice exploded through the radio.
"Boss!"
"The underground tunnel is collapsing!"
"If we don't leave now, nobody gets out!"
Every bodyguard looked toward Vincenzo.
For twenty-five years, his orders had always been simple.
Eliminate the target.
Tonight...
His order would decide who lived.
Vincenzo looked down at Isabella.
His granddaughter smiled weakly despite the chaos.
"Grandpa..."
"You have to help them."
Tears filled Sofia's eyes.
"No!"
"We just found her!"
"We can't lose her again!"
But Isabella gently squeezed her mother's hand.
"Mommy..."
"You always told me..."
"Good people never leave children behind."
Silence.
Vincenzo slowly stood.
His voice was calm.
"I've made my decision."
Every soldier waited.
"If only one child survives today..."
"...then I've already failed."
He turned to Marco.
"Break every door."
"Carry every child."
"If you have to give your life..."
"...make sure theirs continues."
Not one man hesitated.
The same soldiers once feared across America charged into the burning corridors—not with rifles raised to kill...
...but with blankets, stretchers, and children in their arms.
One bodyguard smashed through a locked pediatric ward with his shoulder.
Another crawled through flames to rescue twins trapped beneath a collapsed ceiling.
A sniper abandoned his rifle to carry a little girl who couldn't walk.
Even wounded mercenaries, seeing terrified children crying, began throwing down their weapons.
The line between criminals and heroes disappeared.
Then...
Marco reached the underground laboratory.
Twenty-three children sat huddled together inside steel cages.
One by one...
The mafia soldiers ripped the cages apart with crowbars and bare hands.
As they led the children toward the exit—
A massive support beam snapped.
The ceiling collapsed.
Concrete crashed down.
Marco shoved the children forward.
"RUN!"
The children escaped.
Marco wasn't fast enough.
Thousands of pounds of concrete buried him beneath the rubble.
His radio fell silent.
"Marco!"
Vincenzo shouted into the headset.
No answer.
Only static.
The countdown reached...
10...
9...
8...
The last rescue helicopter lifted off the hospital roof.
Inside were Isabella, Sofia, Ethan, and the rescued children.
Vincenzo remained behind.
Watching the helicopter disappear into the rain.
He smiled.
May you like
"If this is the price..."
"...it's worth paying."
