Chapter 18 - THE RETURN TO GREENWICHThe black armored SUV rolled smoothly through the iron gates of the Greenwich estate under a brilliant, cloudless spring sky. The lawns were lush and green, the flower beds bursting with blooming tulips, and the grand stone facade of the mansion gleamed in the afternoon sun.

Inside the vehicle, little Clara—now nearly eight months old—babbled happily in her car seat, clutching a small stuffed bear with fierce determination.

Roman parked the SUV near the front portico, cutting the engine. He turned around in his seat, looking back at his wife and daughter.

Welcome home, girls, Roman said softly.

Elena smiled, unbuckling her seatbelt and stepping out into the warm spring air. She took a deep breath, filling her lungs with the scent of freshly cut grass and home. The bad memories—the cold nights, the betrayal of Sabrina, the shadow of the syndicate—seemed impossibly distant, buried beneath the weight of a new reality they had forged with their own hands.

As they walked up the grand stone steps, the heavy oak front door swung open. Marco and the loyal estate staff stood in the foyer, waiting with quiet, unwavering respect. There were no armed guards patrolling the hallways with drawn weapons; there was only the warm, golden light of afternoon streaming through the floor-to-ceiling windows.

Mr. and Mrs. Marino, Marco said with a respectful nod, stepping aside to let them pass. Everything is in order.

Good, Roman replied, handing his coat to the housekeeper. Let's keep it that way.
