Chapter 5 - THE ALLIANCE OF SHADOWSThe private conference room of the White Plains safe house looked like a war room. Maps of Manhattan shipping lanes, financial flowcharts, and encrypted server logs covered the table. Standing around the room were four men—Marco, two senior capos from Roman’s inner circle who had refused to abandon Elena, and David Vance, Viktor’s estranged older brother and the rightful heir to the Vance syndicate.

David leaned against the chalkboard, tapping a piece of chalk against his palm. He looked remarkably like Elena, possessing the same sharp, predatory intelligence masked behind an amiable smile.
So, the prodigal son returns, David said, looking across the table at Roman. I told Elena years ago that marrying a thug from the Marino family was a mistake. Looks like I was right.
Roman didn't take the bait. His jaw was clenched so tight his teeth ached. He had spent his entire life believing he was the apex predator of the New York underworld, only to discover he was merely a pawn in a family feud between two aristocratic criminal dynasties.
Cut the posturing, David, Roman said, his voice low and dangerous. We have twelve hours before Viktor executes the final asset seizure. If the federal indictment hits before we flip the script, we’re all doing twenty years.
David dropped the chalk. It snapped against the hardwood floor.
He’s right, David said, turning to Elena. Viktor has already scheduled a meeting with the federal district attorney tomorrow morning at dawn to hand over Sabrina’s fabricated audit logs. He thinks he’s burying you both. But he doesn't know about the secondary ledger.
Elena stood up, walking toward the tactical map pinned to the wall. She tapped a red marker against a heavily guarded waterfront warehouse in Brooklyn.
Viktor is moving his primary cash reserves out of the country through a shell company registered in the Caymans, Elena said, her voice steady and commanding. The transfer is scheduled to clear tomorrow at 10:00 AM, right after his meeting with the DA.
And how do we stop it? Marco asked.
We don't stop it, Roman said, a dark, dangerous smile finally breaking across his face as the pieces of the puzzle clicked into place. We redirect it.
Elena nodded, her eyes meeting his across the room with a flash of terrifying synchronicity. For the first time in nine years, they weren't a mob boss and his neglected wife. They were partners at war.
Sabrina gave Viktor our financial blueprints, Elena continued, picking up a laser pointer. But she didn't have access to the offline cold storage servers hidden beneath our estate in Greenwich. Those servers contain every transaction Viktor’s syndicate made to bribe federal prosecutors over the last five years.

David whistled low through his teeth. That’s enough leverage to put Viktor away for the rest of his natural life.
And it’s sitting right in our basement, Roman added, straightening his jacket. Which means we’re going back to Greenwich.
