Chapter 10 - The Ultimate Betrayal

Midnight had come and gone. The grand ballroom was empty, the champagne glasses cleared away, and the heavy iron gates of the Casaro estate were locked tight against the outside world.
Up inside the private master suite of the west wing, the fireplace crackled with amber flames, casting warm, dancing shadows across the vaulted ceilings.
Myra stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows, swirling a glass of aged scotch as she watched the moonlight glinting off the dark waters of the East River far below. The heavy silk of her red gown whispered against the hardwood floor as she heard heavy, measured footsteps approach from behind.
Leo walked up quietly, standing just inches away from her shoulder. He didn't touch her immediately, but she could feel the immense, magnetic gravity of his presence.
“The Chicago syndicate has officially surrendered their port terminals,” Leo said, his voice low and rich. “The New Jersey commission ratified your position unanimously before dinner. There is no one left in the tristate area who dares challenge you.”
Myra took a slow sip of her scotch, feeling the pleasant burn in her chest. She turned her head, looking up at the man who had changed her entire existence.
“It’s strange, Leo,” she whispered, a faint, melancholic smile touching her lips. “A week ago, I thought my life was defined by a ten-thousand-dollar bet made by a coward who never loved me.”
“Nico was a fool who couldn't see what was right in front of him,” Leo replied softly, reaching out to gently trace the edge of her jawline with his warm thumb. His dark eyes burned with an intensity that made her breath catch. “He thought he was playing a game with you. He didn't realize he was dealing cards to a queen.”
Myra looked deep into his eyes, searching for any trace of deception, any hidden lie, any cruel joke. She found none. There was only raw, absolute truth—and a dark, consuming passion that matched the fire inside her own soul.
She set her glass down on the marble windowsill, closed the remaining distance between them, and wrapped her arms around Leo’s neck.
“And you, Leo?” she murmured against his lips, her heart hammering a fierce, victorious rhythm against her ribs. “Did you bring me here because of a debt of honor? Or was that a bet, too?”
Leo’s arms wrapped securely around her waist, pulling her flush against his chest with a possessive, unbreakable strength.
“From the very first moment you walked into my study barefoot holding your heels in a red dress,” Leo whispered fiercely against her mouth, “you were the only thing in this world I ever truly wanted to win.”

He kissed her then—deep, demanding, and absolute—sealing an alliance born from betrayal, forged in blood, and crowned in absolute power.
Outside, the New York rain began to fall once more, washing away the last traces of the past, leaving only the empire they had built together from the ashes.
