Chapter 8 - The Fall of Chloe

Three days after the bloodbath at Pier 44, the sun broke through the heavy autumn clouds over Manhattan, shining down on the sleek glass-and-steel skyscraper housing the administrative offices of Chloe’s family export business.

Chloe sat at her executive glass desk, scrolling frantically through her phone, her face pale and streaked with mascara. Her corporate accounts had been frozen by midnight. Her credit cards were suddenly declined at every boutique on Fifth Avenue. Worst of all, her father’s shipping contracts with the Casaro syndicate—contracts that kept their entire family afloat—had been terminated with a single electronic signature.

The heavy mahogany office doors swung open without warning.

Chloe gasped, jumping up from her leather chair. “Security! How did you let—?”

She stopped dead in her tracks.

Standing in the doorway wasn't building security. It was Myra.

Myra wore a sharp, custom-tailored charcoal pantsuit that screamed quiet luxury and absolute authority, paired with sleek black stilettos that clicked sharply against the polished marble floor. Her hair was pulled back into a flawless, razor-sharp ponytail. She looked every bit like a high-ranking syndicate boss.

“Looking for someone, Chloe?” Myra asked smoothly, walking into the office and casually running a finger over the expensive decorative globe on the desk.

Chloe’s face twisted with a mixture of terror and bitter humiliation. “You... what are you doing here? This is a private corporate floor! You’re just a mechanic's daughter! How did you even get past the lobby?”

“The lobby belongs to the Casaro family now, Chloe. In fact, this entire building was purchased by a shell corporation registered under my name this morning,” Myra said, her voice dripping with cold amusement as she stopped right in front of the desk and looked down at her former best friend.

Chloe staggered back, gripping the edge of the desk for support. “That’s impossible... Nico would never—”

“Nico is currently locked in a rehabilitation clinic in upstate New York, eating through a straw and begging his father for mercy,” Myra interrupted, her eyes narrowing into dangerous slits. “He thought I was a ten-thousand-dollar bet. You thought I was a naive fool you could laugh at behind my back while sleeping with my fiancé.”

Chloe’s lower lip trembled. She tried to summon her usual venom, but the sheer aura of power radiating from Myra crushed any spirit she had left. “Please, Myra... we were best friends. We chose that red dress together!”

“And you helped price-tag my dignity,” Myra said, her voice dropping to a terrifying whisper. She leaned across the desk, invading Chloe’s personal space until their noses were inches apart. “Pack your bags, Chloe. You have two hours to clear your desk, hand over your keys, and leave New York forever. Because if I ever see your face in this city again, I won't just ruin your finances—I’ll make sure you disappear entirely.”

Chloe broke down completely, sinking into her chair and sobbing hysterically as Myra turned around on her heel and walked out of the office without looking back.
