Chapter 18 - The Federal Breach

The encrypted alert flashing on the terminal meant only one thing: a catastrophic security breach within the upper echelons of the Casaro syndicate. For an empire built on shadows, offshore accounts, and untraceable cash flow, a federal leak was more dangerous than a rival gang war.

“Who has access to the primary offshore encryption keys?” Leo demanded, standing up so abruptly his chair scraped loudly against the parquet floor. His dark eyes flashed with sudden, deadly fury.

“Only three people,” Myra replied, her fingers flying across the tactical keyboard with terrifying speed as she traced the origin of the data transfer. “You, me, and our chief financial officer, Marcus Vance.”

Marcus Vance had been the Casaro family accountant for over twenty years. He was the man who had managed Leo’s books through three federal indictments and two syndicate wars. He was considered as reliable as the concrete foundation of the estate itself.

“Marcus?” Leo shook his head, a muscle twitching in his jaw. “Impossible. He’s buried deeper in our operations than anyone. His family has served the Casaros for two generations.”

“Loyalty doesn't survive federal pressure, Leo. Or financial ruin,” Myra said coldly, bringing up a secondary surveillance feed from the downtown underground parking garage on the main monitor.

The grainy security footage showed Marcus Vance hurriedly stuffing a thick leather briefcase into the trunk of his Mercedes sedan, glancing nervously over his shoulder as a black unmarked federal SUV idled near the exit ramp.

“The rat is running,” Myra stated flatly, pulling her Glock 19 from her holster and checking the magazine with practiced efficiency.

Leo didn't hesitate. He grabbed his coat and his custom-sig Sauer from the desk drawer. “Let’s go hunt a traitor.”

Within ten minutes, their armored Maybach tore out of the Casaro estate gates, screaming through the midnight streets of Brooklyn toward the financial district. The city was a blur of neon lights and wet asphalt as the car drifted around corners at breakneck speed, closing the distance on Marcus Vance’s fleeing vehicle.

“He’s heading for the federal plaza,” Myra noted, analyzing the real-time GPS tracker she had implanted in the CFO’s corporate phone weeks ago. “He’s trying to trade our entire ledger for witness protection and immunity.”

“He won't make it,” Leo growled, slamming his foot down harder on the accelerator. The heavy armored sedan surged forward like a missile, the engine roaring into the humid night air.

Up ahead, Marcus’s Mercedes could be seen weaving frantically through the sparse midnight traffic, desperately trying to reach the concrete barricades of the federal building three blocks away.

“Ram him,” Myra commanded without blinking.

Leo didn't hesitate for a single second. He swung the Maybach sharply to the left, slamming the reinforced steel bumper directly into the rear quarter-panel of the Mercedes with a deafening screech of crumpled metal and shattering glass.

The luxury sedan spun out of control, careening across two lanes of traffic before slamming violently head-first into a concrete streetlamp outside an abandoned warehouse district.

The smoke cleared instantly as Leo cut the engine and threw open his door. Myra stepped out right beside him, her combat boots hitting the asphalt with quiet, lethal precision.

Marcus Vance crawled out from the shattered driver’s side window of his wrecked car, bleeding heavily from a gash on his forehead, clutching his leather briefcase like a lifeline. He looked up, paralyzed with absolute terror as Leo and Myra walked toward him out of the shadows.
