Chapter 4 - THE PRICE OF PRIDE

Sterling laughed, a sound laced with pure madness. "You think you won, Park? You think you're the ultimate puppet master?"
Sterling didn't point the gun at Amara. He didn't point it at Alexander. He pointed it directly at the massive glass window behind them, which looked out over the crowded plaza of reporters below.
BANG.
The reinforced glass spiderwebbed but didn't shatter. The sound echoed like a bomb in the confined room. Instantly, Alexander moved with terrifying speed. He lunged forward, grabbed Sterling’s wrist, and twisted it until a sickening pop echoed through the room. The gun clattered to the floor.
Sterling screamed, falling to his knees as Alexander’s security team pinned him to the ground.
"Take him to the basement of the docks," Alexander ordered, his voice cold. "We will deal with him there."
"Wait," Amara interrupted, stepping forward. Her voice was steady, but her eyes were fixed on Alexander. "The docks? Why the docks, Alexander? Is it because of what's buried beneath them?"
Alexander’s posture stiffened. For the first time since she had known him, a flash of genuine surprise crossed his stoic features. "Amara, go back to the penthouse. It is not safe here."
"No," she said, pulling the manila folder from her jacket and throwing it at his feet. The sticky note fluttered face up. "You planned this. You targeted my family. You didn't save me from my father's debtors—you were the debtor. Tell me the truth, Alexander, or I walk out that door right now and hand this file to every reporter waiting downstairs."
Alexander looked down at the paper, then up at his wife. The silence stretched between them, heavy and dangerous.

"Your father didn't just owe me money, Amara," Alexander said softly, signaling his men to drag a screaming Sterling away. Once the room was empty, he continued. "Twenty years ago, your father and my father built an empire together. But your father betrayed mine. He locked a cache of evidence—names, bank accounts, identities of every major cartel leader in the world—in a vault beneath the Bello shipping docks. Then, he sealed it so only a DNA match from his bloodline could open it."
He took a step closer to her. "I didn't marry you just to get the vault, Amara. I married you to keep you alive. Because the moment the cartels find out who you are, they won't just push you into a pool. They will erase you from existence."
