Chapter 5 - THE GRAND EXPOSÉ

Live on national television, the mask of high society is ripped away. The Grand Ballroom of the Plaza Hotel was blinded by the flashbulbs of hundreds of cameras. The city's elite, along with international journalists, gathered for the annual Whitmore Charity Gala.
Julian and Victoria stood on the elevated stage, looking regal, smiling brightly for the press. Julian wore a medical skin patch over his burns, lying to the media that he was attacked by the "unhinged maid."
"Thank you all for coming," Julian spoke into the microphone, his voice dripping with fake sorrow. "As many of you know, my dear brother Joseph is suffering from severe trauma-induced dementia. A malicious employee took advantage of his fragile state. But tonight, we announce that Whitmore Enterprises is under new, stable leadership."
Suddenly, the heavy double doors of the ballroom swung open.
The room fell dead silent.
Walking down the center aisle was Joseph Whitmore. He looked powerful, unbroken, and completely sane. Beside him, dressed in a stunning, elegant emerald gown, was Alicia. She walked with her head held high, holding the hand of little Emily, who looked like a princess in a white dress.
The press erupted. Flashbulbs went off like machine guns. Security guards rushed forward, but Joseph raised a single hand, stopping them in their tracks.
"Julian," Joseph’s voice boomed through the microphone system, overriding his brother’s. "You always did talk too much."
Victoria’s face turned translucent white. "Security! Arrest that woman! She is a wanted fugitive!"
"The only fugitives in this room are standing on that stage," Joseph declared.
With a nod from Joseph, the massive digital screens behind the stage—which were supposed to show company promotional videos—flickered and changed.
Instead, a high-definition audio-video recording played. It was the security footage from Joseph's study from two nights ago. Victoria's voice echoed through the ballroom, crystal clear: “Joseph was supposed to die five years ago... Marcus, make it look like a robbery gone wrong.”
The crowd gasped. Reporters began frantically typing on their phones.
Julian panicked. He reached into his tuxedo jacket, pulling out a small remote control. "Shut it off! Shut it off or I swear to God—"
But before he could press it, Federal Agents in tactical gear burst through the side doors, their weapons drawn. "Julian Whitmore! Victoria Whitmore! Put your hands in the air!"
Seeing his life flash before his eyes, Julian went completely insane. He didn't surrender. Instead, he lunged off the stage, grabbing a heavy silver ice bucket and swinging it at the nearest agent, before breaking into a sprint directly toward... Emily.
