Chapter 4 - The Predator’s Legal PlaybookThe hospital room suddenly felt ten degrees colder. Ryan stood up slowly, towering over the sleek attorney, his fists clutched so tightly at his sides that his knuckles turned chalk-white.

"Get out of this room before I throw you out the window," Ryan growled, his voice dropping an octave.

Arthur Vance didn't flinch. He adjusted his silk tie with agonizing slowness, his eyes darting toward Maya with clinical detachment before returning to Ryan.

"You can threaten me all you want, Mr. Whitmore, but sentimentality makes for terrible business," Arthur said smoothly, pulling a crisp tablet from his briefcase and tapping the screen. "Right now, Mrs. Whitmore is sitting comfortably in holding, and my team has already filed an emergency injunction. We have sworn affidavits from three household staff members stating that Mrs. Maya Whitmore has experienced severe psychotic episodes over the last six months, including instances where she screamed at empty walls and locked herself in the nursery."

Maya gasped, standing up so fast her chair screeched against the linoleum tile. "That’s a lie! The staff are terrified of Evelyn! She pays them off or threatens to ruin their families!"

"Prove it in court, Mrs. Whitmore," Arthur replied, his voice dripping with condescension. "Judges tend to look unfavorably on mothers with visible bruises who are screaming hysterical accusations while their husbands are under immense corporate stress. Furthermore, the Whitmore Foundation controls the endowment for this very hospital wing. Do you really think the pediatric board is going to let you keep custody when your husband’s family can strip their funding with a single phone call?"

Ryan stared at the lawyer, the sheer scale of his mother’s Machiavellian trap finally sinking into his bones. Evelyn hadn't just acted on impulse tonight. This was a well-oiled machine years in the making—a trap designed to isolate him, discredit Maya, and seize absolute control of the bloodline.

"You think you’ve won because my mother is in a holding cell?" Ryan stepped closer to Arthur, his eyes burning with a dark, terrifying resolve. "You forgot one thing, Arthur."

"And what is that?" the lawyer asked, raising an eyebrow.

"My mother taught me how to be ruthless," Ryan whispered, leaning down until his face was inches from the attorney's. "She just forgot that I learned it from the best. Now get out of my sight, or I’ll ensure your next client is a federal penitentiary inmate."

Arthur’s smug smile faltered for a fraction of a second. He snapped his tablet shut, turned on his heel, and walked out without another word.
