Chapter 7 - The Smoking Gun on ScreenThe phone screen lit up with a crystal-clear, high-definition video feed of the nursery. The audio was crisp enough to pick up the faint hum of the air purifier.

On the screen, little Oliver was sleeping restlessly in his crib, coughing softly.

Then, the door opened. Evelyn Whitmore glided into the frame. She looked immaculate, her expression completely devoid of any maternal warmth. She walked straight to the mahogany shelf where Oliver’s emergency medical basket sat.

The audio picked up clearly as Evelyn muttered to herself: "Let’s see how long she lasts before she breaks."

On the video, Evelyn picked up the bright red emergency inhaler, looked directly into the lens of the hidden camera with a cold, triumphant smirk, and slipped the device deep into her pocket. She then walked over to the locked drawer, opened it with a small brass key from her pendant necklace, tossed the inhaler inside, locked it shut, and calmly walked out of the room.

Ten minutes later, the video showed Maya entering the nursery, immediately noticing Oliver struggling to breathe, and frantically searching the room for his medicine. The footage captured every second of Maya’s mounting terror, her desperate pleas, and the exact moment Evelyn re-entered the room to stage the fake crime scene—deliberately striking herself against the nursery doorframe to create a false bruise before screaming for help.

Maya watched the screen over Ryan’s shoulder, a single tear cutting a clean path through the dust and dried blood on her cheek.

"She wanted to destroy me so badly," Maya whispered, her voice trembling with a mixture of vindication and profound horror. "She was willing to let our son die just to make it happen."

Ryan didn't say a word. His face was carved from stone. He saved three separate copies of the video file to encrypted cloud storage, exported a hard copy to a secure USB drive, and then forwarded the entire package directly to Chief Inspector Vance and the District Attorney’s office with a single subject line: EVIDENCE OF ATTEMPTED MANSLAUGHTER AND CONSPIRACY - THE WHITMORE FAMILY.

He stood up, locked his phone, and looked at Maya with an expression that brooked no argument.

"Pack a bag for Oliver," Ryan said quietly, his voice deadly steady. "We’re leaving this hospital the second the doctor clears him. And when we walk out that door, the Whitmore dynasty is officially finished."
