Chapter 3 - THE FREEZE-OUTThe shockwave in the foyer was palpable. Victoria staggered back, clutching her chest as if she had been physically struck, while Brooke dropped her handbag to the marble floor, the sound echoing like a gunshot.

"This is impossible!" Richard roared, lunging forward with a vein throbbing violently at his temple. His initial shock had given way to unadulterated rage—the fury of a privileged man whose entire world of absolute control was slipping through his fingers. "You think you can just walk in here with some paper stunt and take everything I've built? I made you, Elena! You came to me with nothing!"
I didn't flinch. I didn't step back. I looked at the man I had loved and supported for ten years, seeing him clearly for the hollow, pathetic shell of a man he truly was.
"You didn't build anything, Richard," I said, my tone ice-cold. "Your father built the empire, and you inherited it. And within three years of running it, your ego and incompetence drove it to the brink of bankruptcy—a bankruptcy I quietly bailed out behind the scenes using my family's hidden inheritance, which you were too arrogant to realize existed."
Richard froze. The color drained entirely from his face. "Your... your family? But your parents were ordinary teachers..."
"My grandfather founded Vance-Global Logistics," I replied softly, watching the realization hit him like a freight train. "He left me his private equity shares before he passed. I chose to live quietly as your humble wife to see if you had any real character. You failed the test, Richard. Resoundingly."
Marcus stepped between us, holding up a finger. "Mr. Sterling, I strongly advise against making any threatening gestures or statements. Every word you say is being recorded by the body cameras my associates are wearing, and it will be added directly to the emergency custody motion we are filing this afternoon."
"Custody?" Victoria hissed, regaining a fraction of her venomous footing as she stepped in front of her son. "You think you can take my grandchildren—"
"Leo stays with me," I interrupted, my voice sharpening like a blade. "And as for Brooke’s children, child protective services has already been notified regarding the toxic, abusive environment fostered under this roof. Do not speak to me. Do not look at me. Pack your bags. You have until midnight before the bailiffs arrive to change the locks."

With a swift nod to Marcus, I grabbed Leo's small, trembling hand. "Let's go, sweetheart. We're going home."
As we walked past them toward the waiting Bentley, none of them dared to stop us. The silence behind us was heavy, broken only by the sound of Brooke beginning to hyperventilate as the reality of their utter ruin finally set in.
