Chapter 8 - The Boardroom AmbushThe headquarters of Caldwell Global Enterprises loomed like a monolith of glass and steel against the morning sky.

When the glass double doors parted at 8:55 AM, the reception desk didn't just look up—they froze.

Ethan Caldwell walked in stride with Dr. Maya Bennett, who wore a sharply tailored charcoal suit that commanded absolute authority, her white doctor's coat replaced by the armor of a woman ready for battle. Clinging tightly to Maya’s other hand was Ava, looking bewildered by the towering skyscrapers but holding her chin up with unmistakable defiance.

Trailing right behind them was a high-powered corporate attorney Maya had retained at 3:00 AM.

"Mr. Caldwell, you can't just bring unauthorized personnel into the executive suite—" the head of security stammered, stepping forward.

"Try and stop me, Henderson," Ethan snarled, his voice carrying the chilling weight of a billionaire ready to crush anyone in his path.

They rode the private elevator straight to the penthouse boardroom.

Inside, the twelve members of the board of directors were already seated around the mahogany table. At the head sat Eleanor Caldwell, draped in emerald silk and pearls, her lips pursed in a triumphant smirk.

"Ah, Ethan," Eleanor purred, not even looking up as the heavy oak doors swung open. "You're late. And as you can see, the board has already initiated the vote to strip you of—"

She stopped dead as Ethan pulled out the chair beside her and sat down.

Maya walked to the center of the room, gently guiding Ava to a chair by the window, before slamming a thick sheaf of legal documents down onto the center of the mahogany table.

"Before you take any votes, Eleanor," Maya said, her voice cutting through the heavy boardroom air like a scalpel, "you might want to review the updated beneficiary filings and the restraining order currently being processed against your private security contractors for unlawful trespassing and stalking a minor."

Eleanor’s face turned the color of ash.
