Chapter 5 - The Public ExecutionEmma knew she couldn't go to the police—they were on the payroll of the people hunting them. Instead, she chose the most dangerous route possible. She walked straight into the lobby of the Chicago Herald, the city's largest newspaper, during their live televised gala.

The room was filled with the city's elite—the same faces she had seen on the hospital board. She walked onto the stage, the silver locket around her neck catching the spotlight.

"You killed my mother!" her voice amplified by the gala’s sound system.

The crowd went silent. Security rushed forward, but Daniel stepped out from the shadows, his weapon drawn, standing as a human shield between Emma and the men in suits.

"I have the files," Emma declared, holding up the drive. "The hospital, the money, the poisoning. It’s all here."

The board chairman, a man with a chillingly calm smile, stepped forward. "You’re a child. No one will believe a homeless girl over a philanthropist."

Emma smiled, a cold, sharp expression that reminded everyone of the man who had been a master cryptographer. "I didn't just bring the files. I set them to auto-upload to every major news outlet in the country the moment I stepped onto this stage. It’s already trending worldwide."
