Chapter 7 - THE GHOST IN THE SYSTEMThree weeks later, the corporate restructuring of Voss Meridian was already making headlines across every major financial journal in the country. The media dubbed the hostile takeover “The Silent Execution,” speculating wildly about the brilliant, anonymous strategist who had managed to dismantle a multi-billion-dollar enterprise in less than forty-eight hours.

None of them knew it was me.
To the public, I was still the quiet, sidelined wife who had miraculously walked away with her dignity intact. But inside the mahogany-paneled executive office on the fiftieth floor of Voss Meridian Tower, I sat behind the massive glass desk, reviewing quarterly acquisition portfolios with absolute precision.
My phone rang on the desk. It was the building’s security desk downstairs.
“Mrs. Voss?” the head guard’s voice came through the intercom, sounding slightly hesitant. “There’s... a man downstairs in the lobby. He’s refusing to leave. He’s demanding to see you.”
I didn't even look up from my tablet. “What is his name?”
“He says his name is Adrian Voss. He claims... well, he claims he owns this building.”
A cold, melancholic smile touched my lips.
“Give him exactly two minutes in the lobby,” I instructed softly. “Then escort him out. If he resists, call local law enforcement for trespassing.”
“Yes, Mrs. Voss.”
Ten minutes later, I walked over to the floor-to-ceiling glass windows overlooking the bustling city below. Down on the street, a pathetic, disheveled figure was being bodily carried out of the revolving glass doors by two burly security guards, tossed unceremoniously onto the cold concrete sidewalk.
Adrian scrambled to his feet, screaming obscenities up at the sky, waving his bare fists at the fifty-floor tower that had once borne his family name.

He thought he was the master of the universe. He thought money and cruelty were the only currencies that mattered.
He never realized that true power doesn’t scream, doesn’t boast, and never leaves fingerprints until it’s already too late.
