Chapter 10 - A New HorizonSix months later, the Mediterranean sun beat down warmly against the white stucco walls of a gorgeous, sun-drenched villa overlooking the deep blue expanse of the sea.

I stood on the stone terrace, wearing a flowing linen dress, holding a glass of iced lemonade as the salty breeze played gently with my hair. My laptop rested on the outdoor table beside me, glowing softly with the quarterly financial reports of my brand-new consulting firm—a business I had built entirely from scratch, fueled by my own expertise, unburdened by debt, and guarded by an impenetrable legal fortress.
Life after Jason wasn't just peaceful; it was radiant.
Barbara and Chloe had faded into the distant background of my memory, reduced to a cautionary tale I occasionally shared with close friends over wine. Mia had long since moved on to her next target, ghosting Jason the moment his assets were frozen. And Jason himself was currently learning how to fold prison laundry in a federal facility three states away.
Footsteps echoed softly behind me on the stone patio, followed by the familiar, comforting clink of two fresh glasses.
“Thinking about the past, or planning the future?” Marcus asked, stepping up beside me and handing me a refill of lemonade.
I turned, looking up at him with a warm, genuine smile. Marcus had been my rock through the storm, and somewhere between the forensic audits and the courtroom victories, our professional partnership had blossomed into something much deeper, grounded in mutual respect, loyalty, and absolute transparency.
“A little bit of both,” I admitted, leaning against the terrace railing. “Looking back just to remind myself how strong I can be. Looking forward because everything ahead of us belongs to us.”
Marcus smiled, wrapping an arm around my waist and pulling me close as we watched the sun dip slowly toward the horizon, painting the sky in brilliant shades of gold, amber, and violet.

The trap had been set, the wolves had taken the bait, and the tiger had claimed its crown. But the best part of the story wasn't the drama, the betrayal, or the fall.
It was the quiet, beautiful peace that came after the storm had finally cleared.
