CHAPTER 6 — The Secret Grace Never Told Him Changed Everything

One week later...

Grace was finally discharged.

No cameras.

No reporters.

No celebration.

Only Ethan.

Emily.

Marcus.

And baby Noah sleeping peacefully in his carrier.

A black SUV waited outside the hospital.

Grace stopped walking.

"I'm not going with you."

Ethan nodded.

"I know."

"I rented a house."

"For you."

"You don't owe me anything."

Grace looked surprised.

"I won't live there."

"Then don't."

"I'll pay for wherever you choose."

She searched his face.

"You've changed."

He answered quietly.

"I'm trying."

Emily suddenly interrupted.

"Grace..."

"We should tell him."

Grace froze.

"No."

Emily stepped closer.

"He deserves to know."

Grace slowly closed her eyes.

Finally...

She nodded.

Emily reached into her purse.

Pulling out a faded envelope.

Hospital records.

Dated...

Nine years earlier.

Ethan looked confused.

"What is this?"

Grace whispered,

"The night we met wasn't really the beginning."

He frowned.

"What do you mean?"

Emily handed him the documents.

His hands started shaking before he even finished reading.

Nine years ago...

A young waitress named Grace Miller had donated blood during an emergency surgery.

Recipient:

Ethan Carter.

Blood loss after a warehouse explosion.

Anonymous donor.

Compatible match.

Life saved.

Ethan looked up in disbelief.

"You..."

Grace smiled faintly.

"You never knew."

"The hospital never tells donors who receives their blood."

"I only found out months later."

His voice cracked.

"So before we ever met..."

"I already owed you my life."

Grace nodded.

"I thought it was fate."

A long silence followed.

Then Grace revealed one final secret.

"The explosion..."

"I wasn't there by accident."

Ethan frowned.

"What?"

Grace took a slow breath.

"My older brother worked in that warehouse."

"He died protecting someone."

Ethan felt his stomach drop.

"Who?"

Grace looked directly into his eyes.

"You."

The world seemed to stop turning.

Ethan remembered that night.

Gunfire.

Fire.

Smoke.

A young man dragging him toward an emergency exit.

Then disappearing beneath falling steel beams.

He had searched for the hero for years.

Never finding his name.

Now...

Grace whispered the truth that shattered everything he believed.

"My brother gave his life..."

"So you could live."

"And years later..."

"You walked away from the only family he had left."

Ethan couldn't speak.

He couldn't breathe.

He simply sank onto the hospital steps...

Realizing that the greatest debt of his life...

Had never been money.

May you like

It had always been love.

END OF CHAPTER 6...
To be continued in Chapters 7–9, where Ethan uncovers who orchestrated the warehouse explosion years earlier—and discovers the attack on Grace and Noah began long before Noah was born.
