CHAPTER 3 – The Men in Black Suits
The men in black suits slowly closed in, blocking every exit.
Their leader smiled as he reached for the leather journal.
"You've already seen too much, Mr. Carter."
Ethan pulled Noah behind him.
"If you want the journal," he growled, "you'll have to go through me."
The man chuckled.
"I was hoping you'd say that."
Without warning, two bodyguards lunged forward.
One slammed Ethan against the lockers while another ripped the journal from his hands.
Noah screamed.
"DAD!"
A third man grabbed the little boy by the arm.
"Leave him alone!" Ethan shouted, struggling to break free.
The leader crouched in front of Noah, forcing a fake smile.
"Don't be afraid. You're coming with us. Someone very powerful has been waiting a long time to meet you."
Tears filled Noah's eyes.
"I want my dad..."
The man didn't care.
He nodded to his guards.
"Take the boy."
Just as they dragged Noah toward the exit...
A deafening gunshot echoed through the abandoned terminal.
BANG!
The bullet shattered a light fixture above their heads.
Glass exploded across the floor.
Everyone froze.
A calm voice echoed from the darkness.
"Take one more step..."
"...and the next bullet won't miss."
The men spun around.
An elderly man wearing a weathered trench coat stepped out of the shadows, holding an old revolver with perfectly steady hands.
His face was lined with age.
His beard had turned completely white.
But his eyes burned with unmistakable determination.
He wasn't alone.
Several armed federal agents rushed through the side entrance, surrounding the terminal.
The leader's confident smile disappeared.
"You..." he whispered.
"I thought you were dead."
The old man lowered the revolver slightly.
"That's exactly what I wanted Richard Halston to believe."
Ethan stared at the stranger, unable to breathe.
The old man slowly turned toward him.
"I'm sorry it took me twenty-five years..."
"...but it's time you finally knew why your father disappeared."
