The boardroom fell into complete silence.
Ethan couldn't take his eyes off the government contract displayed on the tablet.
"If Richard wasn't the mastermind..."
"...who was?"
The FBI agent swallowed hard.
"We don't know."
"But whoever signed these documents erased every trace of their identity."
Daniel Carter slowly closed his eyes.
"I warned everyone..."
"There was always someone above Richard."
Before anyone could speak again, Noah tugged on his grandfather's sleeve.
"Grandpa..."
"I think you forgot something."
The room turned toward the little boy.
Noah reached inside his backpack and carefully pulled out the faded leather journal.

With trembling hands, he unfolded it.

Daniel slowly broke the seal.
As he read the first line, tears filled his eyes.

Ethan stepped closer.
"What is it?"
Daniel handed him the letter without saying a word.

Daniel stared at the screen, unable to speak.

There was no text.
Only a recent photograph.
A woman with silver-streaked hair stood on a quiet beach, smiling gently at the camera.

At the bottom of the image was a single handwritten sentence.
"Take care of Noah. My work is finally finished. Mom."
Ethan felt tears streaming down his face.
