Chapter 2 - The Silent AlarmInside the mansion, the warmth of the central heating felt cozy to Graham as he slammed the heavy oak front door shut. He dusted off his hands, looking at his mother with a self-satisfied grin.

“Good riddance,” Graham scoffed, walking over to the wet bar and pouring himself a tumbler of twenty-year-old scotch. “I don't know why I wasted two years on a nobody. A penniless designer with delusions of grandeur. At least now I'm free to marry Cynthia Sterling. Her family's shipping empire would double our status in the city.”
Vivian smiled, taking a sip of her own drink. “You did the right thing, darling. Women like Evelyn only want to anchor themselves to a Harrington name. Let her freeze. It’ll teach her place.”
Graham chuckled, pulling out his smartphone to check his investment portfolio before bed. He tapped the screen to open his primary banking app.

The screen spun endlessly. A red banner suddenly flashed across the OLED display: ACCESS DENIED. ACCOUNT TEMPORARILY FROZEN DUE TO SECURITY PROTOCOLS. CONTACT YOUR ADMINISTRATOR.
Graham frowned, tapping it again. Nothing. “Strange. Must be a glitch with the server.”
He opened his corporate email app to check his morning schedule at Harrington Luxe.

A cold sweat suddenly broke out across the back of Graham's neck. He rushed over to his laptop on the mahogany desk, slamming the lid open. The screen lit up instantly, displaying a stark, crimson interface from Vale International Holdings—the mysterious, multi-billion-dollar parent conglomerate that had bought a controlling stake in Harrington Luxe six months ago.
A single notification sat in the center of the screen: NOTICE OF LIQUIDATION AND AUDIT. ALL ASSETS, ACCOUNTS, AND PRIVILEGES REVOKED EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY.
“What... what is this?” Graham stammered, clicking frantically. Every folder was locked. Every document was encrypted.

Vivian walked into his study, her silk robe rustling. “Graham, why is the hallway thermostat reading zero? The heating system just shut down.”
“Mom,” Graham whispered, his face completely drained of color, his hands shaking violently over the keyboard. “I think... I think we're ruined.”
